Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.

Im afraid Virgin Media has not confirmed that CBS Action will be coming to Virgin TV anytime soon.

I asked Virgin Media on twtter if Virgin TV will be getting CBS Action, their reponce was:

"No plans that we've heard of, if that changes we'll let you know"

They would not tell you anyway. So that means nothing.

To be fair some of the vague replies you've gotten from staff members and reposted here have exactly the same lack of value. Pot/kettle idiom, anyone?

I hope you'll be able to watch your recordings when the channel encrypts. I know that VM are to/have started this for the Sky movie and sports channels in line with Sky policy, there again Box Nation is not a Sky channel, so who knows!

It might be an idea to watch your recordings ASAP...

Out of interest, now that it's encrypted, are you still able to view your Box Nation recordings?

The bit at the bottom right hand corner in blue that states CBS Action is coming on the 13.12.11 on channel 192 is good enough for me. The above links to the Virgin Media website and to a Virgin published document. That to me confirms 100% that the channel is launching soon.

Ask the guys on Twitter to click on this link, then get their thoughts.

Only Sky owned channels have the Subscription Protection on them.

The box records any encryption along with the recording.

As there was no encryption they will play as they can not go back and encrypt them.

Sadly I didn't make any, so I can't test. Would probably work though... next time a channel becomes available for a limited time I'll give it a go.

Hmm! Sounds vague and speculative and so probably not worth posting!

Post Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.

Following on from earlier comments, what I would like to see "Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2012) ..." are time-shift variations of all channels and at no extra cost to the carrier (e.g. VM) from the broadcaster.

Whether or not you have a TiVo or other PVR (not everyone does) time-shift channels can still be useful. Those with recording facilities may have all of their tuners in use , neglected to record a programme or missed it due to unforeseen circumstances. Note that not all Channel 5 programmes are available in Demand 5 and this applies to the other channels with On Demand facilities. Furthermore, not all of the channels have Catch Up On Demand or TV On Demand libraries.

I would have thought that, with the availability of TiVo, PVR, rewind live TV and various On Demand players, the rights issues were already covered and all programming could be archived by the carrier for 24 hours, 48 hours* or 7 days. It might mean viewing programmes as aired complete with the broadcasters' advertising but that's already the case with some of the existing options and the same as if you watched it live anyway.

Okay, in the current linear channel setup +1s for every channel is not really feasible but using the On Demand service or with a new delivery mechanism, such as IPTV, it could be possible.

*IIRC, when VCRs were first introduced in the UK you were allowed to record programmes and keep them for 48 hours only after which they had to be erased. Obviously this was impossible to enforce and most people weren't even aware of the ruling but it sets a precedent for at least 48 hours of access to programmes after they are aired.

Not going to happen.

BBC One , BBC Two , BBC Three , BBC Four , Sky 1 , Sky 2 , Pick TV , CBS Action , 10 Sky Movies channels , 4 Sky Sports channels ,Sky Sports News , ESPN , ESPN America , ESPN Classic etc does not have a +1 channel.

The BBC will never have +1 channels with the way it's going.

Sky and BBC have their content on demand within minutes of it airing so its not exactly a problem.
