If England miss out, I will be rooting for the Dutch, it is about time you won it. You are FIFA ranked 4th after all.

Come on you Oranje's

No that's very different, obviously you wont know the difference though as Wales haven't qualified in your life time.
Glad you cleared that up - so when England get knocked out again I promise I won't remind you of it for the next few months.

Re: FIFA World Cup 2010 South Africa

I doubt much got done in Italy today, the`ll all be

Defending champs out in the knockout stages Slovakia looked a half decent team, if you won your group then had to play them next up you`d be gutted...

Also it was nice to see the South Africans have adopted England as their second team, we need all the support we can get (even Scots, Welsh and Irish.)

Re: FIFA World Cup 2010 South Africa

England have scored 2 goals so far and that's what worries me. With Rooney not playing that well, where are the goals going to come from against Germany ?

On the plus side, if we can stop Kloser from scoring we should be in with a good chance of going through to the next round.

The Germans are not playing well at all so far, so, what does everyone think our chances are? I think we can go all the way this time I`ve just got a feeling. England 3 Germany 2.

They played well in the first game, also England are not playing great. Be a close one tomorrow I suspect but we may just do it but then go out against Argentina.

Re: FIFA World Cup 2010 South Africa

I hope you are right, I just hope it doesn't go to penalties.

Three quick goals in the first twenty minutes would do me.

I must watch it on freeview instead of Virgin, last time I heard the cheers from others in the street before I saw what happened

Want the Americans to do well. Nice to see them gain the support of a country which previously ignores the sport. Also I like the country generally.

Re: FIFA World Cup 2010 South Africa

Not long back from Canada, great place to watch the world cup with so many cultures around, loads of cars with England/German/Italian flags on them. The front page of the main Toronto newspaper on the Sunday after the first England game was of Robert Green - think you want to add there to a list of places to avoid during international tournaments Russ

Sorry but will always support one of the African teams over the USA, it really does hurt them that they can't be good at a sport that doesn't involve constant stop/starting

It's not that America ignores the sport, its that just it's considered effeminate. Fathers in the UK dread the day their son says they want to be a ballet dancer, and fathers in the US dread the day their son says they want to be a soccer player. Soccer is big over there but primarily by women and small children.

---------- Post added at 20:37 ---------- Previous post was at 20:29 ----------

Also worth bearing in mind regarding World Cup 1994 in the US
Quote:
Average attendance was nearly 69,000, which broke records that had stood since 1950, due to the bigger capacities of the American stadiums compared to those of Europe and Latin America. The total attendance for the final tournament of nearly 3.6 million remains the highest in World Cup history, despite the expansion of the competition from 24 to 32 teams (and from 52 to 64 matches) in 1998.

Funny how they find football 'effeminate' yet they tend to consider rugby players a bit mad because they think it's the same as their 'football' without all the padding
