Re: Major TiVo Update

I don't crave anything in particular, I just don't think Virgin offer me value for money. I like to able be able to dip in and out of viewing, and to be tied in doesn't suit me anymore. But I know that we're not all the same.

for me, it's just a cheaper option, and I still get to watch the stuff I want.

Re: Major TiVo Update

I watched a recording last evening and noticed that the "30 second forward / 10 second back" function was shot to heck. Forward jumped a few milliseconds forward. Back the same. WTF?

Also most of my favourite channels had been deleted (again).

Sounds like terminations department is totally inundated. No sympathy, only themselves to blame. No doubt the more people leave, the more prices will have to continue going up.

I do have a large cabinet full of CD's mostly, some DVD's and Blu Rays, but mostly CD's. I like Amazon where you get the CD but its automatically available online.

As for TV where I have no interest in owning the content , streaming is looking more and attractive. Catch up via iPlayer and ITV Hub are quicker on my TV than TiVO and I am thinking of having a go with a Kodi box soon.

The VM 150 to 200 BB has been good for me so the BB might stay but the cost of two TiVO boxes and Sky is getting silly and TiVO is not so slow....all the time

It's happened in Leeds, seems to be a bit quicker.

To be fair, it s the same old six year old processor, doing more in the background than just loading apps. Hence the need for the new forthcoming box. For those who won't want/need the new box, an inexpensive streaming device is the answer which can also include Amazon.

Agreed, although I would say that you can get a perfectly respectable Smart TV these days for less than £400 with all the main players on it plus Netflix and Amazon. Some also have Now TV as well.

The advantage of a streamer box is there relative cheapness, so that you can replace them more often as technology moves on.

I prefer to buy good quality TVs, picture wise, and make them last a good few years. Upgrading a good TV to get the latest apps seems pointless to me.

Re: Major TiVo Update

After almost a week of the new update a slowness has crept in. As some others have reported there are increasing black screen moments and slowness to start recorded shows.

There are several plus points in the new software though. Such as being able to specify specific series in the series links which handy if you are new to a well established show and had started from the beginning, if you had set to reruns it would record lots of episodes you'd seen.

The Series Link + automatically searching out alternatives on +1 channels (or other sources) is especially useful.

The new version of Red Button+ on the BBC channels now has the channel you were watching in the background of the app (though it takes so much screen space it's pretty pointless). It also has sound from the channel you were on. You don't get this if you open apps via the VM menus rather than pressing Red though.

I still hate Red Button+ and the BBC apps but this is BBC's poor design of user interface and focus on video rather than text that is the problem (I'd rather have a HD version of the original Red Button with a transparent BBCi bridge at the right hand side like it still is on various SD boxes).
