Superhub R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35) - Page 30

Had a moan at VM help line with regard to the Superhub wireless performance using R36 firmware. The wireless is still wretched. They're going to send out a replacement hub next week. I did insist that it had better be running the R36 iteration, otherwise there will be a huge row, not impressed in the slightest

You'll need to contact Mark Wilkins to get R36 pushed to your new hub. It will come with R19 and update to R30 when you get it activated. Most likely the WiFi will be no different from the one you already have.

I was on the trial but think the official was pushed through last night. The Hub password had been reset to the default.

Anyone else get this?

Different room? Try a metre (or 3' 3"). It's absolute cack. I have sent Mark Wilkin a PM on the VM forum. Given that is the weekend I don't expect a reply until at least Tuesday. Now starting to seethe, albeit quietly. Not happy, have a reference to follow up on. By now I shouldn't be shocked, however I am going to be seriously annoyed if this is not fixed.

If r36 was successfully to S & M packages(last week) then from later today should be public for every one....

I guess next are the XL 30mb users

Mark Wilkinson says the primary objective with R36 is to reduce hangs and reboots. People still report hangs and reboots but a survey of the beta testers suggests there may now be less of them. I haven't had one but I'm still running 145 radio and no UpNP. I have the firewall on but don't use any parental controls or other filtering. Nor do I run torrents.

There are no new firmware features that I noticed - still has glaring omissions like no ability to override DNS and no dynamic DNS client support both of which are there in the cheapest of routers. The GUI has had a makeover and to me looks a lot cleaner and more logically laid out than it was. One major moan I had about the old GUI was IP address reservtion and that is now vastly improved - you can select a connected device instead of having to type in MACs and it doesn't reboot every time you add one. It will let you move away from the page without warning if you fail to click the apply button - easy to do if you assume that the update button means update.

On mine at least the WiFi range is still terrible but this seems to vary between people - whether that is hub variations or just environmental I've no idea. As I've got a spare hub I've ordered some pigtails off eBay and will be adding external antennas - I can swap to the un-modded case side if it ever needs to be returned.

Well? Is it all go or not for tonight then as regards R36? Despite the Wirral speed upgrade being promised by India for the 5th July 2012 only to be let down.

they say from today should start roll out if the 8000 pilots was successfully but not official statement from VM yet ...

Does this happen on a firmware upgrade? Not long ago my superhub completely reset to factory defaults one afternoon but I couldn't say if this was linked to an upgrade. I really don't want this to happen when I'm away and need access to services back at home.

Firmware updates wouldn't normally cause everything to revert to default. When R36 was pushed to mine it retained everything I'd set. I'm not even sure if general releases of firmware are even pushed to your hub - it may be that it only updates if you power cycle / reboot it.

It was just an assumption on my side. I don't know how to check if I'm on the official or still on beta.
