Gordon Brown is the Prime Minister at the moment - he remains PM until he decides to resign. Lib/Lab could form a coalition even without an outright majority, and Gord could carry on. The big test would come at the Queen's Speech, when a minority Lib/Lab coalition would have the risk of losing the vote on the speech. That would amount to a vote of no confidence and we would end up with another election straight away.

A Con/Lib coalition would have easily more than 326 seats and so would not have that problem at Queen's Speech time.

IIRC the Queen's Speech must take place within 2 weeks from now.

I've only ever done the tourist thing in Brighton once ... it was a very ... um ... strange place.

Mung beans all round, anyway, and congratulations to Dr Lucas. Batty they maybe, but her party has made a minor piece of British electoral history.

Re: 2010 General Election: The Cable Forum Exit Poll

Two factors in a re-vote would be the probable absence of student votes in certain areas and the parties/individuals labelled as 'others' might not take part.

He can't resign otherwise the con/lib majority will probably go ahead so the only option open to him is to struggle on until the queens speech and force a new election

And now the squabbling begins in earnest.

And I thought the past 6 months had been awful.

It was only going to end in tears, maybe the public debate was not such a good idea

I'd love to be a fly on the wall in number 10 just now as aides cower behind nokia proof glass and try and convince GB it might be best for him to stand aside.

If he resigns then it's passed over to the other parties to see if they can form a majority or coalition goverment.. If though he takes it all the way to the queens speech I believe it's an automatic election

(may be wrong as I normally stay away from politics)

Re: 2010 General Election: The Cable Forum Exit Poll

Clegg is sticking to his view that the Tories have first right to try to form a government.

---------- Post added at 10:43 ---------- Previous post was at 10:43 ----------

... but he is also reinterating that he wants electoral reform. The sting in the tail.

Looks like he is an honorable man as he has been saying this from the start.

He's the one I really feel sorry for in all of this. He and his party deserved better.
