Re: World Cup road to 2014
Good movement up front but TBH this a long way from a good Italian side. At least now England and Uruguay have lost it means they both have to go for it in the next game.

I am not convinced.
England look weak. A good average team at times (at best), but not a world beater.
Italy are not the best team in the world.

The one thing Italy do well is to keep the ball and once they get a lead we all know they are very hard to break down as it proved last night.

Re: World Cup road to 2014
I just don't think you can play that system without exposing the full backs. You need to have your defensive midfielder drop back to the flanks to cover the full-backs. Hodgson is under the illusion (delusion) that the wide attacking midfielders will do that job. Play 4-4-2 if that's what you want from your wide players.
Gerrard could probably perform that role if asked but I doubt he'd last 90 minutes.
The first Italy goal was a result of Gerrard not doing his job properly and second goal was an unfortunate lack of communication and it would be harsh just to blame Johnson, Jagielka should have been aware and stuck to the closest man. What are they doing in training if they can't deal with the situation that led to either goal. That's for Hodgson to sort out.

Rooney wasn't playing on the left when Italy got their second

Re: World Cup road to 2014
This is more like a Europe v S America World Cup game, lots of niggling fouls already.
That foul for the pen was exactly the same as the one on Gerrard that went unpunished last night.

Re: World Cup road to 2014
Just watching the BBC coverage of the France - Honduras game and was it just me or did Jonathan Pearce have trouble understanding that it wasn't the first rebound of the post that was given as a goal, but when it rebounded off the goalkeeper? The simulation showed that.
