The sound quality (using optical) from the surround effect channels seem to be clearer and more effective than using standard coax phono cables.

Re: new ntl samsung 2110 with digital output any one got one
When I saw the thread title I thought NTL had finally caught up with the times and fitted DVI or HDMI connectors for LCD screens.
Then I woke up and realised you were all getting excited about a 1990s-era digital audio output. There's some weird kind of time-warp in NTL-Land.
Bwahaha. Glad I'm not still with NTL for my TV. Got Freeview instead, via Media Center through a DVI cable to an LCD screen. There's nothing to watch, but it's an excellent picture

Coax Phono Cables? What are they?
The sound quality ought to be clearer as it remains in the digital format right up to the Amp's internal circuitary, no room for degradation along a cable.

They are the round ones that are normally red and white for left and right channels, like hifi stuff has used for probably 30 years.

Oh OK, theyre Phono, not Coaxial connectors. At least, Ive never seen them being referred to as Coaxial before.

Coaxial just means a center core for the channel surrounded by an outer insulator then surrounded by an outer channel which is normally the ground/earth. All cables/wires like this can be classed as coaxial.

According to bitrate alone, you're right.
However, freeview via an entirely digital route to an LCD panel at its native resolution looks infinitely better than cable via an analogue SCART lead (even RGB). I know, because this is the switch I've recently made.
I was watching The Apprentice the other night and noticed that you can see every individual strand of Alan Sugar's stubble. Not my idea of beauty, just something I noticed.
Oh, and I wasn't actually watching it live - I was watching a perfect recording of the original digital stream that had been made the day before. Windows Media Centre automatically records every episode of this series for me.
You poor people stuck in vintage NTL-land should be screaming at NTL for failing to keep up. How long has Sky+ been around?

In fairness, you can have the highest bandwidth available, but if you decode it through a badly designed decoder, then it will still look worse. I have three freeview boxes (well, two set top boxes, and one USB box for my PC). Watching BBC1 on all of them (and comparing to my Samsung 2100 box), some appear worse than NTL, some better.

Re: new ntl samsung 2110 with digital output any one got one
Just like to say that ive been installing these since Friday!(24th of march i think).
And of what ive seen of them so far, they are a lot more responsive even compared to the samsung 2100.(although a lot uglier to look at).
They are also a narrower but fatter box(if that makes any sense )

Yep, they're on general release in Langley areas now.
And I agree they do generally seem faster when I've used them. They're cheaper as well!
