Yes i think thats fine.
You could always upgrade now to 10Mb if you can get Dad to pay £34.99 a month. You can always downgrade later on.

The price has only just dropped from £37.99 to £34.99 this month. So I can't see it dropping again anytime soon.

It's unlimited - I had the email, but, yes, the website hasn't been updated yet. It is only the first working day of the year, give people time to get over the hangover.
