It would be the same as saying that health levels are "generally" improving... but the number of AIDS sufferers is increasing. People hear about crimes like this, and they are shocked/horrified/numbed. Then when it's pointed out that crime is "generally" falling, that seems like cold comfort.
And it's a sad day when something like this is deemed so minor that you feel it's not worthy of a thread.

OK, tell me precisely what can be said that hasn't been said on countless other threads about violent crimes? It's boring.

I have to say, that as an attitude towards violent crime, that stinks. "It's boring". Oh well, sorry if brutal murders and mutilation bores you, but (and I think I speak for the majority here), it makes me sick that there are people who think that crime "in general" is reducing, whilst violent crime isn't, and that's something commendable?

OK, I'm not saying violent crime is boring nor unimportant. I'm saying posting threads about specific violent crime is boring. Once you've said it's shocking, terrible, lock them up, hang them, castrate them what else is there to say? Nowt, as this thread has amply proven. It's totally, utterly pointless. And therefore boring.
And no the fact that violent crime is rising is certainly not commendable. The fact that other crime undoubtedly is, is commendable (though tabloid readers struggle to accept this because they are fed a daily dose of crime outrage; just press the right buttons, much like this thread). But we need to understand why violent crime is increasing rather than just posting the same old lazy, kneejerk, banal 'what's happening to this country?' tosh.
So, I ask again - is there anything new to say that hasn't been said on all the very many other threads of this ilk?
Just my opinion of course. And I only entered this thread because my name was mentioned in despatches, which will be your faultt I believe Punky

Re: sick murder in london
I see. So, because t's boring we shouldn't bother mentioning it. And the press shouldn't even put it in the papers. Or rather the tabloids shouldn't, because the real papers wouldn't do such a thing.
I think you need to look at both of your shoulders, and remove the tabloid chip. The issue under discussion here is about a horrific crime, and people are wondering why it is happening in our society, and what is being done/will be done about it; and all you do is decide it's "boring" and drag out the tired old rhetoric about crime falling "in general" and how tabloid readers think exactly what the editors want them to think.

I repeat, is there anything new to say that hasn't been said on other threads about similarly horrific crimes. Go on, take up the challenge and tell me.
Crime IS falling generally. Violent crime IS NOT and that is indeed worrying.

Oh I see, if you can't say anything that Andyl hasn't heard before, then don't bother posting... is that the angle here?
Well how about this: other people who also use this forum might want to discuss this particular crime, and/or violent crime "in general". Now you might not like that, but then you don't have to. If it bores you, nobody is forcing you to read it. And if a teenage girl being mutilated shocks others, but bores you, then feel free to spout about it not being an issue, as crime is falling "in general".

How many murders involve a child being chopped up ?
Nah forget the challenge
lets just stop posting on router problems, connection problems, setting up a new broadband conection etc etc etc. Its all been said before so why bother.

I didn't see any real on-topic opening discussion. I saw a fair bit of nothing and then ironic ranting.
What is the point in starting a thread with no premise or guidelines for a decent discussion other than the solitary headline or a newslink to the BBC? What you rapidly get is the same old free-for-all. Andyl is right, it rarely turns into an intelligent discussion and it is VERY BORING. It is why I rarely visit these forums anymore.
You see, none of you know any details of the story so all most of you end up doing do is trying to out-sick each other as to how you'd personally deal with the perpetrator of the crime. When you all run out of your public outporings of disgust (which usually happens well within the first page or two) and the thread is about to die then we get the usual baiting posts.
I'm sick of it and I think some of you need to grow up.
Goodbye, again.

Well, thanks for that intelligent and informative post.
You also miss the obvious point here: perhaps other people want to discuss the issue, regardless of whether it bores you or others. Or is that irrelevant?
