Re: Trailing the first friday quiz of September
In addition to Graham's tips, here's some of mine
1) have a good mix of subjects, with a variety of levels of difficulty, and if possible try have 2 or 3 "themes" (related questions).
2) Use txt files, generally smaller than equiv doc, and not as resource hogging as MS-Orifice
3) Use a better editor than notepad, my prefered one is EditPad.
4) Have the answers already set up in a file, with dot leaders ready to add names too Answer_1 ..... <add name here when answered>
Answer_2 ..... <get the idea>
5) Add closing words, congrats etc to the file in #3
6) Prior to hosting, put the cat out, take phone off the hook, eat chocolate for that burst of energy etc
7) Maintain the answerers file during the game.
8) In the same file also maintain a line with which to paste the #'s left
9) After all Q's answered, conduct a quick check before pasting
10) Paste results. Breath sigh of relief, shout hooray, buy round of drinks etc

At the end of the quiz post that file plus the list of people that got the answers.
1. Graham etc.
That way, you have all the quiz info in one final post, and it saves people having to go back in the thread to find out what answer is for what question.

Well a) I already know the answers to the questions I've posted, so I don't usually need reminders (unless someone googles for something totally surprising!) and b) just make sure you don't post the wrong file...!!

Should I say something immodest about including the words "Graham wins again"...?!

a. Yeah yeah. Some of us mortals do not know the answer to some of the questions. I just like to see the questions and answers side by side at the end.
b. You mean the file named 'answers', as opposed to the one named 'questions'? Yes, you'd have to be a real to do that.

You could, but then again you don't know what list that I copied that line from

Just for you Nemmy an invitation, you are very welcome to join in. The quiz will be at 6.30pm tomorrow! Be there, or be an equal sided 90 degree four cornered object!
And Metawraith (please try and stay for the whole quiz) and Graham (it's at 6.30pm tomorrow, Friday 9th September 2005 (tie a knot in it to remind yourself ).

I could make it 7pm if that would draw more contestants in?

Look forward to seeing you all on friday afternoon

Can one of the questions be 'How do you spell tr ialling' as in testing rather than tr ailling as in following a trail?

[pedant mode]
Surely trailing would be spelt with one l?

Err, it was 'trailing' in the sense of 'there's a friday quiz coming up, don't miss it!' - just like a movie trailer.
And yes, the pedant in me knows that dictionary.com is having none of this as a meaning for 'trailing' .
Incidentally, has anyone sussed the answers to the remaining questions from last week?:
- What's the last sentence of Joseph Heller's classic novel 'Catch 22'?
- From which record did M¦Aà ƒâ€šÃ‚¦Rà ‚¦RÃâà ¢‚¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚¦S take the 'Pump Up The Volume' sample for their single of the same name?
