As an amusing anecdote, our office is currently getting a leased line installed. We went with a group called HSo and after everything was signed off, found that they're going through Virgin to provide the link. Virgin, in turn, are going through BT to get the line installed in our office.
They all use each other when it suits them.

Re: Virgin National closes to new customers
Hasen't that always been the case? Or did VM actually used to install LLs?
They always seem to quote BT lead time - they did when our old office had one something like 36 days?

Re: Virgin National closes to new customers
I have no idea, I have no experience with this. I just found it odd as Virgin actually has a presence in the area anyway.

Same or where I am - it's like a cross.
lol that looks like a person and you're yellow square is just under their nuts!
Makes sense for BT to do it - after all if VM could dig up places wouldn't they use it to their advantage and try to expand?

It's probably not that VM can't, just that they won't due to cost.

Re: Virgin National closes to new customers
I read somewhere they also need permission where as BT have auto granted status due to the FTTC rollout.
Probably wrong but.. would make it all easier for everyone. I think it would be great if they worked together. Just a shame the FTTC kit was in and out.

Sounds like typical short termism knee jerk reacting from exec's.

But maybe they should get you in as a business consultant.

maybe they should as he seems to know more than the idiots you guys got in place now.
Ok lets spend money installing equipment and placing fiber to exchanges, and then wait for it. sometime later spend more money ripping out the fiber and removing all that equipment again.
Wow what great business sense. Cable customers in congested areas will love hearing where the profits gets spent instead of making sure existing services are up to scratch.
So what commercial services can be sold using backhaul in an exchange aside from LLU adsl and GEA VDSL? If you going to answer this be clear and informative dont just say something vague like "you are dumb exchanges are more than just pop's for xdsl".

Re: Virgin National closes to new customers
Not really a knee jerk reaction though. The fibre project was something that the previous senior team came up with. Tom and Liberty want to take the business in a different direction.
I have attended a couple of investor sessions where Mike Fries has spoken and it's pretty clear they want to grow VM and have a good idea on how they will go about that.

how is that then? or is it more posting tidbits with no bite on forums?
what you just said means nothing you havent posted anything of note.
also however which way you spin it, spending money to do something, and then spending more money to undo what you just did so quick is stupid. it may be the case cancelling the decision was correct, but that would mean the original decision was bad.

Perhaps the new board do think the previous boards decision was bad and that's why they have back tracked. The new board haven't wasted any money as they didn't spend it.
Not sure what you are on about with the tidbits and no bite comment. Means nothing to me?

Re: Virgin National closes to new customers
But if VM are giving Sky backbone then surely they wouldn't remove them from the exchange?

Re: Virgin National closes to new customers
I'm sure there's a distinction between removing VM's FTTC equipment and removing the backhaul stuff. Besides, that probably is marked as Sky's equipment and not Virgin's.

Yes but it still connects to VM's backhaul, which would not be removed.
