I've found Netflix to be fantastic so far, oddly more for its TV shows then films. No expiry dates for content and most episodes of shows are on there, unlike VM where it would be half-a-season (with some episodes missing) which have to be watched by the end of next week.

Streaming quality (on my Xbox 360) has been excellent (720p I believe), and pretty close to some HD channels on TiVo. Most of the content I've streamed has been in 5.1 audio - there's some HD channels on TiVo which don't even broadcast in that.

I've stated before why TiVo is ideally placed to have these sort of apps. If VM are content with using that 10mb connection for Twilight promotional apps and to convince us to upgrade to Sky Sports, then, well, their loss. TiVo is being seriously out-apped by several devices (it has fewer apps then any other media player, console and TV in my house) and I don't think the likes of BT Vision and YouView will be shy of such apps.

The 'hundreds of apps within 12 months' statement was made in December 2010. Even taking the best interpretation of it and starting the 12 months from the first installs, the odds of them meeting that goal are quite small.

Even i, as Tivo's greatest defender, am a little disappointed at the apps Virgin are making available on it. I player is excellent, despite it it'ss problems, you tube is rubbish, because of it's problems, the rest just take up space.

For a start, the Cable companies now just narrowed down to Virgin Media have always worked with Front Row/Filmflex and therefore probably have an agreement in place not to add services which will clash with it, if it does, Filmflex is dead.

I know on Cable and Wireless up until around 1998, they had Sky Box Office as there pay-per-view near on demand service and then Front Row came along, Cable London didn't have any service until Front Row. So imagine what would happen if Virgin Media brought back Sky Box Office alongside Filmflex and offered them both!

The next thing is Sky Anytime, everyone knows how much Sky likes to create special terms for Virgin Media, like it would only supply a majority of its Sky HD channels when they had taken over Virgin Media Television. Therefore, Sky has probably pointed out that in order for Virgin Media TV customers to get Sky Anytime movies, they must not have additional services which may clash, they probably made Filmflex and Picturebox go because they were already present before Sky Anytime was added.

And finally, licencing,regulation and content responsibility of TV on demand may be holding it back, Currently, Viacom the owners of MTV,Nickelodeon and Paramount is currently in dispute whether Virgin Media should be responsible for it's content on demand. After 7 years of providing on demand content on NTL and Telewest, Viacom feels the need to throw the spanner in the works.

So to add content and apps such as the ones you would like takes a lot of effort and time to add for both Virgin Media and the provider. So you just have to wait for now.

What a load of tosh , funniest thing I've read , VM still use filmflex and picturebox don't they.

Netflix, LoveFilm, Vimeo, VEVO, that's about it.

I meant the title and first post. I hope a Netflix app does appear sometime though. Although its line up isn't amazing just now.

I was being kind to VM and basing the 12 months on the official Tivo launch, which I believe was April

I believe Sky Anytime VOD coming to VM was part of the deal which saw VMTV being sold to Sky.

Considering what else VM got from that deal, I doubt if Sky were in any position to tell VM what apps they could or could not put on TiVo.

If I remember the Cindy Rose article correctly, Lovefilm was mentioned, and she said current film services would not prevent services such as Lovefilm.

Sony have their own streaming film service, but still put Lovefilm on connected devices. Desn't the PS3 also have Netflix?
