re: MAJOR NETWORK ISSUE (17 Jan 2012)
DNS isn't down for me, but can't access the VM Service Status page. Can get Google and various other sites.
PS VM Broadband is down completely - I'm getting in via a neighbour's O2 wireless network.

re: MAJOR NETWORK ISSUE (17 Jan 2012)
Calm down everyone.
It's just been announced that the outage is due to an electrician checking some building wiring in an apartment block in the South of England and accidentally uncovering the HQ of the national modem cloning network.
Police and tactical firearms experts along with two qualified technicians (not necessarily VM technicians) are attending the scene and normal service shall be resuming shortly.
Thank you for your patience.

re: MAJOR NETWORK ISSUE (17 Jan 2012)
Saw this on the virgin media forums:
- F1861007 Intermittent Connection Issues F1861007 Intermittent Connection Issues
on 17-01-2012 18:58
We're aware that some of our customers are experiencing intermittant broadband connection issues on our network currently.
Our network team are currently investigating this at the highest priority.
Broadcast TV remains unaffected, however TiVo and other interactive services may be intermittent.
As this is a general network issue you don't need to call us to report it, we're already working to restore your service.
We'll update this announcement when we have more news.
Thanks
Mark Wilkin

re: MAJOR NETWORK ISSUE (17 Jan 2012)
Good to see them make good use of Social media when there is a nationwide issue - not!.
Why is it so hard for them to put a message up saying they are working on the issue, they have just ignored everyone for the past 2 hours. Even if the Twitter and Facebook teams have gone home surely you have some sort of contingency (like a manager that can post) to get important messages out to customers.
EDIT: Seems they have finally posted something.

I've been in work all day and we haven't been aware of any National issues. This has only been identified in the last hour or so.
