Re: 500GB or 1TB option

Hi guys,

Having read these forums with interest re: TiVo, I think the 500GB version will be adequate for my needs. Although I pre-registered, I am yet to receive an email with the details but from these forums it looks like there will be the £49 activation, £3 TiVo fee plus £40 install.

Is any of the VM staffers on here able to comment on whether they will do a free installation offer on the 500GB box like they have for the 1TB box during April?

Thanks

It is priced at £49 with a £40 installation fee.

Re: 500GB or 1TB option

Crazy difference in price between the two boxes, if indeed the only difference is the hard drive size.

Be more than happy with the 500GB given the prices I think.

Question Re: 500GB or 1TB option

I know it sounds mean, but in the future I wonder if they will drop the monthly charge at least for XL TV subscribers?

Re: 500GB or 1TB option

One thing perhaps to remember, is that TiVo isnt just recording the things you've asked it to, it will be gathering content for stuff you might like and stuff that matches your wish lists. So if you think you'll record up to 60 hours yourself, that won't be enough space for TiVo 500mb, and you'll miss out on one of the key reasons for TiVo.

Otherwise your £3 per month is kind of being wasted.

Have to admit that I will certainly be thinking about getting the 500gb Tivo. My main reason for upgrading would be the extra disc space. I realise what you are saying with regards to the wishlist function, but this is something that I don't see my self using anyway. And although the wishlist is one of the main features of the box, I'm hoping that I will be getting good value for the extra £3pm charge

It's just a shame Virgin can't waver the install fee, but I'm still OK to pay current 500gb Tivo asking price.

Re: 500GB or 1TB option

My question is though, will the £3 a month be dropped for VIP50/100 subs with the smaller box.

Re: 500GB or 1TB option

just got my email from VM re getting the TiVo before the rush

it appears to say the 1TB version has 2 tuners for recording and a 3rd one for watching

is that correct or have I miss-read that - recall seeing somewhere you could only watch on 1 and record on a second tuner ??

When it initally launched only two tuners were switched on. Now all three are

In fact you can record on all three at the same time (but you have to watch something recorded or via the BBI connection)

Re: 500GB or 1TB option

thanks -

does the TiVo have a transfer prog to DVD recorder option like the V+ box

I see you can't transfer what you have recorded on the V+ box & if you want to keep it as well you have to pay £6.50 pm but is there an option to keep the V+ box but not connected for £0 - ie just so I can view the recorded progs &/or record to DVD over time

Re: 500GB or 1TB option

I have gone with the bigger version as it sounds suitable for films arts and sport in HD which take up space. Also the installation fee being dropped made my mind up to go with it now.

Re: 500GB or 1TB option

yes the £0 installation fee makes the difference

still making my mind up - I've got the V+ box pumped to bedroom using the spare RF output on the back of V+ - does the TiVo have a RF / spare output that could be used

Re: 500GB or 1TB option

The Scart is always active on TiVo and replicates (menus and all) what is via the HDMI

I'm thinking of getting the 500GB TIVO as my second box in bedroom.
