Re: Windows Defender

Norton used to be great especially their corporate software but in the last 6-8 years it's got so bloated and resource intensive that norton is useless.

Re: Windows Defender

Funny - I've just got a trial version of Norton IS 2011 installed on a spare PC to test it out. I know it used to be resource hungry but aparently it's got better (2010 > onwards) so I thought I'd give it a whirl.

Re: Windows Defender

Always remove one AV before installing another, defender though is anothre matter as that will be either turned off or rendered defunct.

The link I gave you to MSE is the proper link and is free

Re: Windows Defender

Thanks Kymmy. It told me yesterday that Windows defender was deleted but something is stopping me from downloading. The link you gave me yesterday I tried to use loads of times but it said my settings were blocking it from being downloaded.

Re: Windows Defender

...or use another PC and put it onto a flash drive and install from there. As Kymmy said already - remove anything you have already and reboot.

Some people say disable / remove the LAN cable at this point as well to disconnect you from 'internet.

Re: Windows Defender

I would run a Full Scan defirish just so everything has been given the once over. It may take a while.
Remember to update it before you do the scan, click Help the About security essentials and you should see the same as the pic.

Hopefully it will come up clean

What security software where you using previously?
