I can say from my own personal knowledge, that the title of the topic is indeed more correct than many realise, the average joe who has a chipped box, will have a nice Freeviewbox sometime during the next 10months.
the traders some whom have paid for there 5 bedroom houses dealing in boxes and so forth (yes i'm being serious) will or have already moved on to other ways to make money.
Quite a few Virgin employees will loose that extra work and money aswell...
Cardsharing... well thats been about for awhile, its like that one girl who would never her let you fuk her, its invite only and a very exclusive club, 90% aint never gonna get an invite.
Virgin will realise how well they have done by the end of next year, when they measure how many new customers they have gotten and how many sky has gotten in the year, i bet atleast 75% will be ex chipped boxes average joes.
Although it may end up costing virgin more in the long run, many average joes and some higher up the food chain, had a real subbed box to mask the chipped box, i have personally been in a house doing a network install, The guy had an 8 point splitter for ntl boxes, i did drop the famous " oh your one of them flashing ntl box owners " line to get him talking, turned out the guys brother worked for ntl at the time, he was one of those who couldn't help but talk, seemed very proud of his work!... he said it was very common for houses to have more than 1 box, most had them throughout the house, told me about a landlord who owned houses/flats in derby and notts who had ntl TV, internet in every house he owned, each bedsit/flat had its own TV and Internet! of course all dodgey! use to charge £50 extra a month for the service!
my point being, all these people are going to have to get a tv package from somewhere, now thats a **** load of new punters for sky and virgin to fit over, i wonder whos gonna take the lions share.
like all dodgey and freebies in life, its been a rollercoaster ride, its highs and lows for both sides, for virgin its cost lots of lost profits and new investment for equipment, for the other side, well some just get a blank screen some time over the next year, others well they may get couple of hours of TV time a week if the guards let them, and of course the bigger fish, always have worry about that one angry punter whos decided the £150 he paid for his new door stop, needs handing over to the police with a name and address, and of course under the new proceeds of crime act its a whole new Rollercoaster ride for them.

Re: It's official 'virgin Media' have won the war againts piracy.......but for how lo
I read a little about this on another forum. There seems to be many people who have, & pay for, legal broadband, then use illegal boxes. Isn't there a case that if these clone type boxes do fail, punters will opt for a cheaper broadband service? Therefore Virgin will loose revenue?
Peeps throughout the forums say the sky box is much better than the Virgin box, & if push comes to shove, they will switch suppliers.
It is distasteful to think my subscription for services is subsidising illegal boxes, but if revenue falls, will Virgin hike the prices.

Good point.
But at the same time it does free up space in the cabinets for new paying customers.
They might lose the thieves but over time they will hopefully get new customers, We can only hope.

I`ve just read a bit about TIVO. I would think Virgin will put some kind of blocking software on it rather than loose customers wouldn't they.
