There isn't a PC brigade. If there were it would be visible to the naked eye. Which it isn't. Because it doesn't exist. Like the story of the Three Little Pigs, in fact, although that may come as a shock to some.
Nasty little question - given that the UK is a fully franchised democracy, Muslims just as much as anyone else are entitled to campaign (but not, however, to demand) to change this country's culture and indeed laws. Therefore zing's statement can be rewritten 'I'm fed up with this country being a democracy'. Discuss.
Prove it. Resorting to worn out cheap 80s stereotypes doesn't help your argument, I can provide several Guardian/Observer columnists (Nick Cohen springs unpleasantly to mind) who are among our worst Islamophobes and would fit neatly into zinglebarb's world view. Find a Grauniad article supportive of Becta's action or any other 'PC gone mad' story and I'll send you a biscuit.

Our government is far from perfect (and you will never hear me say it is), but remember this: Countries who don't have democracies also don't offer a lot of the freedoms (things such as, oohh, the freedom to express thoughts and feelings that don't agree with what the government says) that, thanks to democracy, ours does.

Sorry, but when you said "We lost the country a few years back" in relation to muslims, what else are people supposed to think? Not that I actually suggested you were a member. Touchy aren't you?
Are you honestly suggesting that Muslims cannot be British, and this is not their country as well as suggesting that the country was lost to them?

Re: 3 little......BANNED animals
Just in case anyone's interested in some balance:
http://news.becta.org.uk/display.cfm...658&catID=1633
which doesn't mention pigs, Asians or Muslims at all, unsurprisingly.
Now for some investigation. It is just possible that, given that they were shortlisting four out of goodness knows how many products that the whole thing is a PR blitz by Shoo-fly designed to use the magic words 'Muslims' and 'political correctness' to cover up for noses being out of joint at not being shortlisted by BECTA. Notably, close reading of the story reveals that the whole thing derives from feedback from BECTA to Shoo-fly, which was in turn revealed to the BBC by Merlin John of, er, http://www.merlinjohnonline.net who got it from, er, Shoo-fly. Good publicity for Mr. John here, who has previous in being critical of BECTA and has recently struck out on his own, which doubtless had no bearing on his decision to stick an attention-grabbing story on his own blog.
Quote:
The Three Little Cowboy Builders, a highly entertaining and funny digital 3D pop-up book that had already been voted Best Primary Resource and Innovation in Education by headteachers in the Education Resources Awards was denounced in over-the-top "politically correct" terms by the Becta judges.
|
So much for blaming teachers, they gave it an award. Ho hum. Does anyone else think Mr. John's article reads like an advert? Cynical old me.
Without access to the *full* original feedback we have no way of knowing what weight was given to the pig or builder aspects of the story, so we're in some way flying a bit blind here (and the BBC is being rubbish at reporting it in a balanced way, by the way, they shouldn't allow themselves to be used as a one-sided mouthpiece).

Yes, sorry, I did correct the spelling and punctuation. The meaning, however, I left intact. I applaud your good sense in throwing in the towel before stepping into Xac and my carefully constructed Bigot Traps, though.

You can express your opinion. However, you must also remember that (as with discussion in off line life) other people are free to disagree.

No i was saying that we lost this country to the "your not to mention Pigs, The War, Or anything that might upset anyone anywhere anytime" Group. Did i mention Muslims no i did not so your post is a typical example of what i am talking about. You made the decision that i was being racist and wadded in with you idea of who i am. Well you are wrong as is the norm.
<MORE REP DISCUSSION REMOVED - JEFFERSON T>

You yourself have argued in favor of Jehovah's Witnesses, saying that people should not believe the negative press that is often published about them. Shouldnt the same be applied to Muslims?

Man what a load of <EDITED - JEFFERSON T>.
I'm so.so sick of hearing the word "Muslim" .
Oh the Muslims won't like it if we have a pork sandwich(i wonder if pork will be the next thing to be banned from advertisements on tv???).
Why do we have to please "MUSLIMS" all the <EDITED - JEFFERSON T> time?
Why can't we just say whatever needs to be said without it "offending" "Muslims" every <EDITED - JEFFERSON T> time a pork <EDITED - JEFFERSON T> sandwich or some other crap appears on tv advertisement ?
Hardly free speech.
I hope this sorts itself out seriously <EDITED - JEFFERSON T> up this is.
Who gives a <EDITED - JEFFERSON T> about 3 <EDITED - JEFFERSON T> pigs ffs?
Oh i forgot It's them "Muslims again.
We hear that word so many times.

As I said, I've not suggested you were a member of the NF, I just asked if that was the time you were talking about.
Touchy indeed.
And why bring TheNorm into this? I don't think he's even posted
