In Unix this would be so easy, you'd just output the ps command to a text file... although you'd be best scripting this to refresh every few seconds or so. Fortunately, a version of the ps command is available for Windows here

Oh, and you can pipe this output by typing pslist > ps.txt (or whatever you want to call it)

I assume that where say in your listing Windos Time (Disabled), in my services.msc it says auto, i can set it to disabled?

Re: Windows XP Services (are they all required)
I thought I was badly of with 30 running at the same time. However I do have to disable about half of them when rendering any pictures.
I must get this 512 stick of Ram installed...I just can't find anyone to do it for me...

Its not that difficult to put ram in, it can only go in one way.
Buy an anti-static wrist strap to stop you frying thr RAM

Yeah but remember the first time you installed some.Remember the surprise at the force you needed to exert and the fear as the mobo flexes

Ah yes the good old days of thinking "OOoooooh I've just blown a shed lot of cash and what the hell's happening".
We've all been there.
Take your time, keep the anti static strap on, and follow the instructions, and youl be fine. Good luck.
I've currently got 24 processes running so am quite pleased now

If you open the Services app (Admin Tools>Services, or Start>Run>"services.msc"), & go to "Action" you can select "Export List". It can be saved as tab delimited text or comma delimited text, which can be opened in e.g. Excel.

You can safely stop & disable "SSDP Discovery Service" - it's associated with "Universal Plug 'n' Play", which is pointless & already disabled.
I think you can also stop & disable "TCP/IP NETBIOS Helper".

Windows Time is used for updating the clock online (the "Internet Time" tab when you bring up the time/date). You can safely disable it, although it means you'll have to remember to check your clock is right every now & then.
