She hardly shot at the with an AK47 it was an air gun I belive she missed. One of the "kid" even wants her to be released.
Yes she should be punished but being locked up is way over the top.

You do realise that there are plenty of air pistols/rifles on the market than could easily kill people right?

Re: teacher jailed !!!!!!
And she had one of those? I have been shot by an air rifle when I was a kid and it stung badly but did not wound me as such.
Did she actullay shoot and hit one of the tearaways?

No, she shot it in the air to scare them off.
And if the scrotes had shot her instead, they'd probably get an ASBO or conselling or a holiday somewhere.

You're COMPLETELY missing the point, I've seen someone shoot a rabbit from at least 50 yards with a Weirauch air rifle and watched it's guts land at least 6 feet away. She broke the law, end of story, she COULD have killed somebody and as someone who teaches children with "behavioural difficulties" she should have known better.

There's no point you trying to twist the story to your own ends, the article clearly states that
Quote:
|
A confrontation with a gang of youths drove her to fire the weapon at the pavement near one teenager's feet
|
Unless pavements where you live are suspended in mid-air then you're wrong. I'm not saying she deliberately set out to injure anyone but it would have been VERY easy for her to miss and end up hitting one of the kids.

Noone is saying otherwise... But given the immense provocation she experienced, over years, and given the state of mind she was driven to.. She should have had her sentence suspended on grounds of diminished responsibility.

The only concern I have about the case is that according to Sky she was sentenced to 6 months for possessing a "firearm", she didn't possess a firearm, she owned an air pistol which is perfectly legal, she was sentenced to 1 month for "affray", imo she should have been sentenced more for that, not for actually possessing it.
Edit: Having thought about this, it's perfectly legal to own an air rifle/pistol so long as it doesn't exceed the 12ft. lbs. limit, if it does exceed this then you require a firearms license to own it, and let's face it, if she owned a air pistol that powerful she wasn't aiming to just "scare" people.

I said into the air, I didn't say into the air above them. She did not try to shoot the people directly, as her court case shows.
Noone is saying it wasn't irresponsible, but I know what its like, and I know people who have been there, bullied so much, it can cause people to breakdown and react irrationally. With the state of mind she was in she shouldn't have kept a weapon readily handily, but Christ, look at who we don't send to prison, and she does? The punishment doesn't fit the crime.

Re: teacher jailed !!!!!!
Let's not forget too that the court heard that she went out "ranting and raving" before firing this gun.
Having said that I think the sentence may have been a bit harsh, but then I'm not familiar with the sentencing guidelines. Three months sounds more appropriate.
But a hunger strike? Please.

No, it doesn't. The article says she shot 'at the pavement, near one of the kids feet'. Seeing that's how sky reported it, she may well have aimed at one of the kid's feet/legs.
I think you're speculating a bit too much. It does not mention 'years of immense provocation' in the article either. Sure, she was provoked, but we don't know the details/extent of this.

Re: teacher jailed !!!!!!
There seem to be some people here that think it ok to shoot at people that hack them off. Get me a gun now. I've got a few years worth of rage to settle.

Re: teacher jailed !!!!!!
I am sorry but I would have done the same. I am a nurse so what you are saying Bifta me and that poor woman should nont be doing these jobs?
What a load of toddle. Paul will tell you what I did last month. I ran after a group of girls who was dissing my house and another couple of houses in the street. And then procedding to sit on the car, so you mean to tell me that I have to put up with it? If I had a glock I would have bloody fired it in the air as I am getting fed up of the kids of today, they are rude, arrogant, steal[ anything] and think they own the streets. They need a lock down or nobody will want to go out on a night. I own an air pistol and yes I would use it.
