Does anyone know what's Stargate's philosophy of time travel is...obviously they accept it can happen. I'm really referencing causality... As in moebius p1/2 they traveled back to 3,000 BC, on a Tuesday I think Jack said! (joke!)....they then went about and wrecked the timeline by 'doing too much too soon'...and made Ra take the gate with him when he fled...

So, and I'm getting to my point!, when the wrong timers, Jack, Silly Sam and Golden Teal'c came back and fixed the future...what actually happens to them?

..in star trek they'd disappear cause the future is as it was and meant they would action those events...

but in SG1 do they live their lives out in 3000 BC?
__________________

Not wanting to answer my own question...but I think the past stays in tact...since at the end of Moebius we see Sg1 watch the tape of themselves...with the ZPM thing sitting in front of them...

cool!... get a ZPM for doing nothing other than digging up a camera and power source....

..some issues... won't they have a time machine too...hence two time machines?.....but how can you have another time machines...
There will actually be 3 time machines.
The original timeline
The Alternate timeline
and the new timeline

That is unless they destroyed the other 2 timemachines in the past.

Also if timetravel worked like startrek then the original Daniel never would have been there to interact with the alternate timeline Carter O'Niell and Teal'c.

I think Timetravel works under the alternate reality principle. All timelines exist simultaniously but changes made in the current timeline cause the current reality to Merge with an existing realities timeline, or something like that .

All of which makes me relieved that SG1 takes its science far less seriously than the rathe anal scriptwriters over at Star Trek.

Well it is a recognised theory so they did actually do thier research but you are right, its nice that the whole episode didnt rely on recomfubulating the energymotron or whatever (taken from futurama ) to restore time. It's also a much more simple explination that the viewer can hear, take in, not really understand but not worry about anyway .
From an Early spoiler I read for that episode I was under the impression that there would be several incarnations of SG-1 from alternate realities all working together at the same time due to failed attempts to restore time.

Re: Stargate: SG-1, don't miss it!

This reminds me about an episode a few series ago when Hammond sends the team through the gate knowing he was sending them to meet himself back in the 1960's....yep time travel again...

...on their return to their true timeline, ours I believe!, they catch a sun's flare, and travel into the future..when Casandra, the ickle girl Sam adopted..., is old and grey... She says she has been waiting for them... the SGC is all under dust wraps...and deserted...she then helps them back on their way through the gate using an instant dialer hand device, that those forest people use...

I fancy buying the whole series on DVD...and starting again!

Re: Stargate: SG-1, don't miss it!

Having seena few episodes here and there over the years, i finally made an effort and downloa, sorry watched, all the episodes in series 8 so far. I do get whats going on im glad to say - a couple of bits were a wee bit confusing but i get there.

Just wish O'Neil would hurry the hell up and score, its X-Files all over again.

That episode you are talking about is called 1969, one of the good funny episodes, the main difference between 1969 and the new episode meobius is that in 1969 they go back and do exactly like they have done before in a never ending loop. In Moebius they go back and get it wrong wich is what causes all the problems.
By the way, Wich forest people?

I forget...but help me remember...when Jack first met the Asgard...Thor said that 'Humans' have taken the first step to become the 5th race...the galatic alliance thing....consisting of the Ancients,Asgard, and two others...

They are one of the other two... their planet has a massive hidden city that hovers above ground level, they are masters of the mind and can heal their brethren...

Re: Stargate: SG-1, don't miss it!

Thats the episode where they kept going invisible, would not do a thing againt the goauld etc.
Then showed jack how powerful they really were at the end.

I msu say that this episode, although having some scifi base to it looked a little stupid.

Geeky sam & Daniel...oh yeah.
What
It makes me larf!

They are the Nox, but they dont use technology, they can dial the gate with some form of telepathy. They move thier hands in a caricle standing infront of the gate and the event horizon follows the path of thier hands forming as though by magic.
Though I will have to double check that in a bit

Yep that's them....I thought they had a hand device...hmmm

... I don't believe that a race, even one as supposedly as powerful as the Nox could interface with Ancient technology...not even the Ancients, as far as we know, could do that...

..but that's them ... they remind me of Hobbits, thinking back!

Just watched it now, season 1 episode 16, its called enigma. She looks at Colonel Maybourne and shakes her head, then she raises her hands from her waist in a circular movement clapping them together above her head, the path of the event horizon follows her hands.
The Gate opens in a similar way when the asgard dial it, the Azgard use a Jewel implanted into the hand. The Nox seem to do the same thing without any technology.

And the ancients can do that, but only when ascended, since the Nox seem to be on a higher spiritual plane maybe they do this in a similar way .

So what did Casandra use in episode 1969 to open the gate?

Maybe its something they make, or maybe its something they find on atlantis that the ancients left behind.
