Apparently it used to be the rule that the winner had to appear on sportsview (later to become sportsnight) but considering that show finished in the late nineties it can hardly be held against them anymore.

Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year
Got to go with Andy Murray.
He became the first British man in a Wimbledon final for 74 years. After finishing as runner up he broke down in tears during his post match speech.
One month later he's back in 2 more Wimbledon finals to secure a gold and silver medal for team GB.
Finally on Monday he ended Britain's 76-year wait for a male Grand Slam singles champion with an epic victory over world number 2 Novak Djokovic in the US Open final. It involved the longest tie break in US Open Final history at 12–10 in the first set, it made Murray the first man ever to win an Olympic gold medal and the US Open in the same year, and it tied with the 1988 US Open final as the longest final in the tournament's history.
Oh and as a little bonus he won the 2012 Brisbane International at the beginning of the year too.
Murray has been the nearly man for the last few years with many doubting he could win a Slam. This year he has shown great heart, commitment, mental strength and character. He has also opened up emotionally this year and let the fans get a glimpse of who the real Andy Murray is. Apart from Jessica Ennis, I can't think of anyone else in the list who has had the same level of expectancy and pressure put on them by the press and public as Andy Murray this year. This for me is what makes him the sports personality of the year.

It will be the only personality he will ever have if he wins.

Ironically the partnership between the usually droll Murray and the blunt Lendl has been a winner with the press, and has proved Murray has a great sense of humour.

It will be led by Lendl as he always had character unlike his protege.

I think the deciding thing will be that Wiggo is regarded as the peoples champion, as can seen by the thousands lining the roads in Towns and Villages during this weeks Tour of Britain, which is effectively his lap of honour.

It is a joke nothing more and most certainly not an argument as this will be the only time that I will vote on this matter.

Not up here in Scotland he isn't
The ATP World Tour Finals, regarded as the fifth slam, takes place at the O2 Arena in London during November. In the tournaments 42 year history there has never been a British player in the final. Surely IF Murray wins this he'd have a great chance at sports personality of the year.

She's also a bit marmite - she certainly seemed to polarise her team mates' opinions of her. One of the support team is marrying her, although it seems he had a major falling-out with another of the team, who was his flat mate, because of it.

Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year
From the shortlist, Ellie Simmonds would be my first choice, Nichola Adams second and Wiggins third. Under no circumstances do I want Murray winning, anyone but Murray.
