Is ESPN likely to be removed from XL TV?

Production values are so poor on ITV channels though, no mistake. Regularly I see timecodes and title cards popping up before or after a program, proving whoever is in the backroom dealing with transitions is a complete muppet, or team of muppets. Also, ITV have the worst quality streams on their SD channels, especially on Freeview. They're so low bitrate there is regular aliasing/quantisation noise. All this before I run down the quality of the programs themselves!

if you think the ITV channels are bad you should take a look at BBC2 scotland - absolutely appalling.

since when there is no announcement to say VM are to remove ESPN from their XL pack.
the article states that ESPN and SKY have agreed to a deal to pay the SPL for the rights to air the SPL matches thats all, there is nothing that changes in regards to ESPN and their current pay tv contracts. its a content only deal for the channel to air content and nothing to do with VM in regards to if the channel stays on XL or goes subcription only.

He was asking a question, based on what a previous poster had said, and not making a statement

Yeah sorry to confuse matters. As far as I'm aware there are no plans for ESPN to be dropped from the XL package.

I read it to mean that should Virgin drop ESPN in future they would not pay to subscribe to it.

If you are prepared to pay £40.00 per month more than you do at the moment, you could actually cancel your current SKY Sports, SKY Movies and SKY HD premium subscription with Virgin. With the savings you make cancelling these services, plus the extra £40.00 (maybe more!) you are prepared to pay, you could actually get a subscription with SKY which includes all the HD channels you want, all the niche channels you want plus I'm sure you could probably get Boxnation and Premier Sports for that price too.
So within the budget you are prepared to work within you can keep your extra fast broadband with Virgin, keep your TV choice and catch-up TV, get all the channels you want plus be able to record hundreds of hours worth of TV on your SKY+ box and V+ boxes. You will never need to miss any programmes again.
So from here on in the only person holding you back from getting what you want is actually yourself. Clearly neither SKY or Virgin can deliver what you want but a combined service from both will deliver everything you desire.

Well if Sky Atlantic (and other missing channels) was a seperate premium channel then you do not have to pay for channel you don't want!
and anyway, you can't get HBO content on Virgin's VOD

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.
I think if VM dropped ESPN from the XL package, l would seriously drop VM altogether,.
What a major problem is with VM is that they drop channels without contacting customers, with Sky they don't, VM have this set routine that they waste so much money on leaflets etc, and yet they 'con' the customers with all these deals, and don't live up to it.

Yeah the point I'm making is that you want every single channel that SKY broadcasts. You've made that crystal clear on numerous occassions. You've also made it clear that you are prepared to pay more, much more than you currently do to get access to these channels. I've simply highlighted how you can achieve this within your budget. Again if you don't join SKY you're simply holding yourself back. Why do that to yourself Alan? You want the channels and can afford to get them.

I don't remember you raising this as an issue previously, and I certainly didn't say you can get HBO content on Virgin's VOD. Is this you just trying to continue moaning about something else Virgin doesn't have. Again as stated previously if you personally want HBO programming join SKY and watch SKY Atlantic. Joining SKY, and keeping the Virgin services you want, are within your budget. I know this as you've told us time and time again what you'd be prepared to pay over and above your current subscription to access the channels you want. I don't understand why you are robbing yourself of the content and channels you want. I don't understand why you are wasting your time telling us over and over again what you'd like to have access to. Be proactive Alan, here I'll help you out:

It's £10.00 to join and you can have the dish installed within 4 days. You can be enjoying everything your missing. In fact come back in 4 or 5 days and let us know how your getting on. No need to thank me just now, I'm just giving you the helpful nudge you need.

I'm not surprised, especially if the quality slide on that has been recent. I've noticed the quality of the BBC News 24 channel completely slump... poor hosts who trip over their words and frequent technical errors on everything (poor editing, misuse of library photos, music coming in early or late, satellite feeds getting dropped even ones from within our own country). It's like the BBC decided in order to make budget cuts they'd fire the team who did it right nearly all the time and employ a bunch of office temps with a bad attitude.

i must add that is across the board where BBC2 scotland is concerned freeview, satellite and virgin - it is IMO the worst "major" channel there is.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.
All this argument over Sky and VM, l have said before on this forum that if you want cheap packages, then go to VM, if you want similar cheap packages go to Sky.
For what you get for the cost its Sky for me, the channels etc, and Sky are not scared about investing for the customers, that US.
Sadly VM lag behind as they won't invest for the customer, they will for BB as that's what is making them money, but the channel content lags behind drastically.
The HD contents lacks behind Sky, CS on VM lacks on pr with the consumer as most of the time, they don't understand what you are saying.
This might be a criticism on VM, but if you don't pay that extra quid, which VM customers don't want to pay, then you won't get the channels.
VM are in business to make money, but they must know through forums like this what VM think of them. And l am certain that VM read this forum, as l contacted VM one day, and they know this forum very well.
