As am I, but mainly their dramas. Not a big fan of comedy; though I might give "Curb..." a try sometime. Plus I have a wishlist for S1E1 of "2.5 Men" just to see what the fuss is about

First episodes of a TV show are never the best indicator of how good a show is. If you like Big Bang make sure you check out the unaired pilot, a different a cress plays Penny and the group dynamic is very different.

Only had Tivo about 5 weeks, and it's already 50% full with HD recordings and suggestions turned off. There's also hours on the 2 V+ boxes we have. And it all belongs to my good lady. We have just chucked loads of old videos away - goodness knows how much of those was never watched. Anyone else in the same boat?

What you would ideally need is the what is available in the USA as per link below:

Not 100% sure of its connectivity versus Cisco box used by VM but a nice solution for those recordings you may want to "tuck away" to look at at some stage in the future.

Up to 55% myself now as record HD for everything where possible now and would be interested in this solution myself for long term storage of programmes.

I think you have the same opinion as I do. It's great to have the capability of recording (and keeping) 120 hours of HD programming but so what if you never watch it. When could anyone ever find time to watch 120 hours of programming?

My take on having a large list of recorded programmes is that you may not want to watch them all, but decide now and again you may want to watch one of them.

It’s like making your own TV Choice list with your own preferences; never intend to watch everything recorded, but a ready made portfolio of programmes you like previously recorded and available to you any time no matter how long you keep them, while TV Choice will drop series/programmes after time.

I’m recording all episodes of “Seconds from Disaster� off the Nat Geo channel for example all in HD. Will probably only watch one now and again so would probably take me years to go through every episode. But at least I have them available at any time I want to watch and would prefer them to be off the Tivo HDD so I can pull them back when I want to watch them. Even with a 1TB GDD, Tivo is not best for long term HD programme storage like this so reason why interested in the Netgear readyNAS solution which seems to be available to work with Tivo in the USA.

Yes this is my take on this I have 3 kids and we have recorded a lot of Movies for the kids in SD. All mine and my partners programmes are recorded in HD and we are at 34%.

So as you say it is like making your own "ON DEMAND"

In same situation, my kids record every Doctor Who episode and Doctor Who Confidential as well, they tend to keep them on the HDD forever and keep watching them well past any showing on BBC iPlayer.

So you only need 5 or 6 series like this and even with 1TB, this will start to become an issue.

Until VM change to Mpeg 4 and your 1TB box suddenly records 240hrs of HD.

Yes I know what you mean And also as you say if you get 5 or 6 series it will start to be a issue, They should have put a bigger HDD in (But then some would say they still have not enough space).

Very true as the V-HD and TIVO are all Mpeg4 capable.

Nope it's only the SA V+ that are holding back the mpeg4 switchover.

Be interesting to see the numbers on how many there are out there.

The problem here is recording things for "long term storage" isn't actually legal. The idea behind home recording is for the purposes of time shifting, not to keep copies of programs indefinitely.
There's a whole load of minefields that need to be navigated to allow people to export recordings from the stb to other storage.
