I agree with your points though regarding other things and expect all the little niggles to be ironed out (padding etc.) through software updates. These things are to be expected from a new box. The EPG on the other hand is bread and butter basics, they can't be affording any hiccups in that area in my opinion.

yer totally right matey,I did expect bugs. But the epg regarding series links(new programs) should be better,it is letting this great equipment down and just shows how great the series link epg is on v+.I suspect vm/tivo are working on that as most of us with them now have got them for free but when existing/new customers start paying out hundreds of pounds out for this equipment and seeing problems like this are not gonna be happy

Well exactly, I forked out £149 quid and £3/month and I'm still finding errors all through the EPG data.
Today for example I asked it to record the new series of Bang Goes the Theory. A *NEW* BBC series, yet in the EPG it's telling me the episode tonight was first aired 01/01/2000 and is therefore a repeat.
That is just not good enough IMO.

It takes a lot of work to get every single bit of info on the epg correct and as TiVo still hasn't officially rolled out there are still a few bugs around regarding correct premiere dates and first broadcast dates. Anything that is noticed is still being reported to the correct team. Hopefully everything will be running smoothly by the time the full rollout takes place.

Totally agree,Some people are forgetting that it as not been offically released yet.If you are willing to take a pre release of a product like this you should expect a few bugs still needed to be sorted,I have spent a lot of time playing with it today and must say very impressed and its only gonna get better.

Would be nice, because the guide data for the S1 boxes seems better than the data for VM's TiVo:
http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb...23#post8426623
I'm sure it takes a lot of work, but......isn't that one of the reasons for the additional £3 per month? If not, can someone break down exactly what the £3 is for?

See what yer saying matey,I am a lucky winner so i dont pay it for 12 months. But people who are paying £3 really are going to have grounds to complain if the epg is not sorted,I suspect that the epg and the 3rd tuner are there top prioty and will/hope will be sorted in there planned march update.I personally am willing to wait till they get things sorted as i have said before its a great/awsome product and the bugs will be sorted(it takes time),What they need now is new channels to support it especially HD that is what will help tivo take off and maybe aquire sky customers

I've been working on a big software project for months now, our customers aren't paying a penny until the project is completed to their satisfaction and has no bugs or data issues.

Wow!
Whenever I order a software build or package, the usual method of payment is 1/3rd up front, 1/3rd on delivery, and final 1/3rd after two months after "going ive"; that is, of course, not counting any projects/enhancements that are T&M based.
Your company must have very strong cash reserves to support the model you describe (especially on big programmes, like a data warehouse or ERP rollout).
btw, " no bugs or data issues" - good luck with that one.
btw2, imho, the £3 is for the service, not the software - they should not be confused.
btw3, most software packages come with a maintenance/upgrade annual charge, which is 10-25% of the software list price, which helps pay for upgrades/bug fixes.

We have a lot of existing customers and charge per customer. Can't go into details about the exact nature of the work I'm doing, but, like any application used by hundreds of customers Europe-wide, correct data is a must.

Re: TiVo
And the customer owns the data, surely, not the supplier.
The supplier may code the appropriate checking in the data input/throughput cycles, but the customer has to take some ownership of the GIGO mindset.

Like I said, can't go into details.
As for TiVo - much of what it can do is based on correct guide data, sure, its being worked on - but why do the old S1 boxes appear to have correct data compared to the new VM TiVos? Isn't the data coming from the same source?
