Incorrect name? Seems like the FT has never heard of a typo. Regeron instead of Regeneron. Does make the memo look rushed though.

Makes it look like it was typed by someone else (between that and the fact it wasn’t even his error in the statement).

Trump says he is doing well, after chief of staff says next 48 hours ‘critical’
By Colby Itkowitz, Derek Hawkins, Seung Min Kim and Hannah Knowles

Trump’s blood oxygen level Friday left us ‘real concerned,’ chief of staff says
Trump’s health has shown “unbelievable improvement” since Friday morning, when his blood oxygen level “dropped rapidly” and left staff seriously concerned, Meadows said Saturday night on Fox News.

Echoing a Saturday evening letter from Trump’s physician, Meadows expressed optimism on Fox News but said the president is “not out of the woods.” He reiterated the importance of the coming days, saying, “the next 48 hours … with the history of this virus, we know can be tough.”

Earlier in the day, Meadows told reporters that “the president’s vitals over the last 24 hours were very concerning, and the next 48 hours will be critical in terms of his care."

Speaking to Fox News’s Jeanine Pirro, Meadows shared more about staff’s fears Friday morning. He said that was “when I know a number of us, the doctor and I, were very concerned” about the president’s health.

Trump had a fever and plummeting oxygen levels, Meadows said. But he said the president was soon “up and walking around” even as experts recommended that he go to a hospital out of caution.

A senior administration official confirmed that Trump was given oxygen at the White House on Friday before going to Walter Reed.

The FT said there were actually two errors in the memo:

b) An incorrect name was used for the drug itself. The memo of 3rd October refers to it as a polyclonal antibody therapy whilst Regeneron's antibody therapy is monoclonal. Not an expert on the differences here eg if a cocktail is used, does it become "poly"?

b) Manufacturer's name, using the name Regeron instead of Regeneron. (Regeron focuses on reverse-aging biotechnology, especially on manufacturing human polypeptide growth factors for cosmetic applications including hair care).
A potential typo or genuine confusion with the other company.

Polyclonal is a mixture of T3 antibody cloned genes. Monoclonal uses the same cloned T3 antibody gene.

Seems to me to be a minor difference hardly worth dispute. Both lead to unpleasant, probably fatal outcomes.

And, of course, Trump wasn't being sarcastic at all as we all know. He was being plain dumb.

About REGN-COV2

REGN-COV2 is a combination of two monoclonal antibodies (REGN10933 and REGN10987) and was designed specifically to block infectivity of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

To develop REGN-COV2, Regeneron scientists evaluated thousands of fully-human antibodies produced by the company's VelocImmune® mice, which have been genetically modified to have a human immune system, as well as antibodies identified from humans who have recovered from COVID-19. The two potent, virus-neutralizing antibodies that form REGN-COV2 bind non-competitively to the critical receptor binding domain of the virus's spike protein, which diminishes the ability of mutant viruses to escape treatment and protects against spike variants that have arisen in the human population, as detailed in Science. Preclinical studies have shown that REGN-COV2 reduced the amount of virus and associated damage in the lungs of non-human primates.

Re: U.S Election 2020

The therapy is known as REGN-COV2; the company calls it a “cocktail” of two monoclonal antibodies.

Quote:
Polyclonal antibodies are made using several different immune cells, while monoclonal antibodies are made using identical immune cells that are clones of a specific parent cell.

Re: U.S Election 2020

Trump also receiving dexamethasone for COVID.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/world-54382914

BBC article from June 2020.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-53077879
Quote:
Coronavirus: What is dexamethasone and how does it work?

Coronavirus infection triggers inflammation as the body tries to fight it off.

But sometimes the immune system goes into overdrive and it's this reaction that can prove fatal - the very reaction designed to attack infection ends up attacking the body's own cells.

Dexamethasone calms this effect.

It's only suitable for people who are already in hospital and receiving oxygen or mechanical ventilation - the most unwell.

The drug does not work on people with milder symptoms, because suppressing their immune system at this point would not be helpful.
Just looked up the BMJ paper on Dexamethasone in the management of covid -19, from July 2020.

Quote:
Patients admitted to hospital with covid-19 typically report symptom onset three to five days after exposure (fatigue, chills), progressing to fever and dry cough 48 hours later. Transition to severe disease with hypoxaemia occurs five to seven days into the symptomatic illness, about 8-14 days after original exposure. In the RECOVERY trial, dexamethasone was beneficial for participants treated seven or more days into the symptomatic phase, with the onset of hypoxaemia. Importantly, there was a non-significant trend (P=0.14) towards possible harm affecting participants without hypoxaemia and not on mechanical ventilation. RECOVERY findings therefore support use of dexamethasone only for patients with hypoxaemia, not those with milder disease. The data do not support use of dexamethasone or other corticosteroids in the outpatient setting.
From the US Government National Institutes of Health Medical Research site
Quote:
Recommendations for Patients with COVID-19

- On the basis of the preliminary report from the RECOVERY trial, the COVID-19 Treatment Guidelines Panel (the Panel) recommends using dexamethasone 6 mg per day for up to 10 days or until hospital discharge, whichever comes first, for the treatment of COVID-19 in hospitalized patients who are mechanically ventilated (AI) and in hospitalized patients who require supplemental oxygen but who are not mechanically ventilated (BI).
- The Panel recommends against using dexamethasone for the treatment of COVID-19 in patients who do not require supplemental oxygen (AI).

'IMPROVING' Trump could leave hospital TOMORROW as Covid doc says Meadows ‘misconstrued’ update

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/128436...irus-tomorrow/

DONALD Trump could leave hospital tomorrow as his coronavirus doctor said Mark Meadows "misconstrued" the update.

The president's team of doctors made the announcement on Sunday afternoon.

If the US President continues to improve, the doctors said they "plan for discharge as early as tomorrow."

With my patented distrust of most 'official lines'. If he tested positive on Monday/Tuesday (before the debate, as some are suggesting) what's to say they didn't anticipate him going into hospital and stage these fairly generic videos before his condition deteriorated?

Your tin-foil is showing, jf...

However, I a more confused that Dr Conley stated today
Quote:
"I didn't want to give any information that might steer the course of illness in another direction. And in doing so, you know, it came off that we were trying to hide something, which wasn't necessarily true."
Does the virus watch TV?

Re: U.S Election 2020

I found this an interesting read

WASHINGTON (AP) _ Sen. Joe Biden claimed during a campaign appearance in New Hampshire last spring that he finished in the top half of his law school class, although records indicate he finished near the bottom.

last week Biden released his law school records showing he had graduated 76th in a law school class of 85. The law school transcript also showed he made little progress in class standing through the three-year course, ranking 80 out of 100 in the first semester of the first year, and 79th out of 87 the second semester of his second year.
