Yeah that's probably true, if your threatening to leave that puts them on the defensive then. Doesn't get you off to a good start.

Yes l agree it is better to speak politely to retentions as l did in the past and its surprising how much they are prepared to give and take in customer/retentions negotiations.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
This has been my argument with VM, we are NOT on a contract, so when we asked about getting a Tivo, they told us we had to pay £49.95 whatever.
And yet NEW customers get it FREE, (free install and activation) apart from £5.00 per month - tell me whats going on.

I am by no means a new customer but in january i got my TiVo free install and activation! plus £7 off my bill a month until jan 2014 but i had to re-contract for another 12 months to get the deal.
Much like a new customer would have to contract.

And when you were a NEW customer, you will also have got a better 'deal' than an existing customer. That's how they get new customers.
EXISTING customer deals ar e available, but only through 'retentions' and not CS.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
Is it just me that is reading too much in to this? Or how many are they in talk's with?

Virgin Media is negotiating with video streaming service providers, such as Netflix Inc. ( NFLX ) and Amazon.com's ( AMZN ) Lovefilm to add shows and movies to its TiVo DVR boxes.

Or could they be in talks with Epix HD as well?

I can understand your frustration.
I've just been chatting with my brother and asked him to explain exactly how things went today, and how he got his box for free.
My brother called 150 and then went through to the choice to make changes to his package. He got through to a lady and told her he just received a mailshot showing all of Virgins new Collection packages. My brother then mentioned the VIP Collection especially caught his eye, and highlighted it was much better than the VIP20 package he'd taken out about 4 years ago. He then also mentioned as he is out of contract, how long would his new contract be if he decided to upgrade to the VIP Collection. From here the lady at Virgin reviewed his current package and highlighted all the benefits of the VIP Collection i.e. 100Mb broadband, TiVO etc....
The lady at Virgin was now into sales mode. My brother just positively reinforced everything the lady said. So when she mentioned 100mb broadband, he came across as being really impressed. When she mentioned 1Tb TiVo he asked questions about its functions and even stated he thought it was just the 500Gb box and how this package was a bargain. Basically my brother gave a verbal nod and a big thumbs up to everything the lady had to say.
At this stage my brother finally mentioned how much it would cost to upgrade, would there be any install fee or activation charge. The lady from Virgin stated as he was out of term for sometime and had remained loyal she would waive all fees and charges.
Pretty much my brother addressed this today giving the lady the impression that the cost and charge was the last thing on his mind, when in fact getting TiVo for free was the main reason for his call. He let the lady at Virgin go through all the sales pitch, and then he mentioned the cost at the end almost as if it had came to his as an afterthought.

As I am not home can you please tell me if they "match" the red button on V+
What I am really looking for is this. Sorry if its a bit long.
On BBC2 Wales we get live rugby with in that show is the red button which offers Welsh language, A talk show type comments & some times the refs mike. Will it deliver that sort of thing ?
But other than that a great step forward thank you BBC,well its nothing to do with Virgin is it

Arthur I got the same deal on install etc from retentions - by saying that I had seen the "Free" offer for new customers. I was told that as I had mentioned it and ONLY because I had,I could have it Hope this helps
