Possibly interesting - though it is by Polly Toynbee
Quote:
Meanwhile, US law may enter the fray. A former Labour cabinet minister has alerted attention to the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which makes an American company (News Corp) liable for colossal fines if any employee bribes a foreign official (the Met police) even if no one at head office knew. What's more, any whistleblower inside the company (sacked News of the World reporters), stands to win a percentage of that fine if they report acts of bribery.

Labour is calling for an immediate start to the judicial phone-hacking inquiry so evidence will not be lost when the News of the World closes.
News International has strenuously denied a Guardian report that millions of e-mails have already been deleted.
|
Quote:
And Labour's deputy leader, Harriet Harman, told Sky News: "Think about what is going to happen at the end of today: the News of the World is going to be closed down, all the staff are going to be disappearing.
"What will happen to the computers? If a judge is really to find out what happened, not to mention the police inquiry, if all the staff are going off in different directions it would be very difficult for the judge to call on them to come and give the evidence that they know.

News International has denied reports that the paper's offices are to become a designated crime scene when journalists leave.
"Following discussions with the police, all necessary steps have been taken to secure the information necessary for their investigations," a spokesman said.

Personally I think Labour need to be less party political about this as their hands aren't clean either..

I think politicians from all sides will have to change their relationships with the media after all this and then maybe MPs will have to work and campaign harder then the current cosy relationships that they currently have.

Yes. Party politics would reduce the effectiveness of using the current situation to reduce the power of News International. However they are right to press the government hard on the inquiry and a reformation of the PCC. The government has been slow to reacting to this 'crisis' and up until Wednesday were resisting it.

Slow and resisting it or getting advice on the best course of action as i said i wouldn't want to be the politician that has to sort all this out because this is going to spill over onto everyone of the partys. This really has the potential to take an apathetic pulbic and completely destroy public interest or faith in politics and the police.
Murdoch would dearly love to do as much damage as he can to this country we have to be careful that we don't hand him the torch to start the fires.

Sky must be extremely worried. They must have been planning what they would use all that money for from the buyout, Instead now they have a problem with there share price plummeting and the chance of no money

The staff should be offered jobs in other areas of the business while the management are sacked and dealt with by the courts if they are found to have been involved with the hacking of peoples phones.
I will not be buying or reading that comic
