www.adslguide.org.uk

Bt are offering 2mb adsl with 15gb cap for £24.99 from the 17th Feb. BT business broadband is £29.99, 2mb, no cap. NTL need to speed up there upgrade program. They should not charge £25 upgrade fee either though if you threaten to cancel I am sure they will waive it.

Yep

Any competition is good competition as ntl seem to stay ahead of the mainstream competition

I hope this now spurs NTL to up the speeds again this year (after the current 'coming soon' increases).

Re: [Merged] *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please

Shifting 1TB in 2 days as part of a warez hub (and don't even try to give me bull**** about it being legit traffic, I'm neither naive nor stupid) isn't really the average user, infact it's totally irrelevant for the purposes of this discussion.

Extreme bandwidth usage has no relevance to these issues at all, using 500GB a week is clearly an abnormal usage pattern, and imho those who do so can go and get themselves a dedicated box as they have no business doing that on a home or business broadband connection that isn't 1:1.

X-Box chipped by any chance?

Sorry to seem insulting but you're exactly the kind of user that no ISP wants and who ntl are hoping to be shot of with the capped upgrades.

The new packages from BT Are fabulous news, this kind of competition will spur on the progress of HSI in the UK and as they move to 2 - 8Mbps will encourage the cablecos and LLU operators to compete through innovation.

Nope hes measured it at 7.2 , which as he says he can live with for the price.
He would have had cable, but he did'nt want to worry about the cap, he thinks ukonline's cap is very generous.

Re: [Merged] *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please

He has the full 8Mbps synch, are you sure he's on the same exchange as yourself, 8Mbps is impossible at that distance.

If he has a line attenuation and SNR from his ADSL modem/router I'd be interested in seeing them.

not sure if it's been mentioned.. there's a lot of pages to read through but BT are upgrading home and business speeds at no extra cost!

He said his server has a 100mbit connection that gets through 1tb a month. Does that really warrant an accusation of illegal activity? There are plenty of things that could use that much bandwidth on a public http server.

Ummm I was referring to his comment about doing 1TB in 2 days, you quoted me referring to that.

Too quick to jump on me because you don't like what I say?

Presumably you can think of plenty of web sites that aren't run by major corporations / academic institutions that can do 1TB in 48 hours legitimately?

Name me one home connection that can do that much. He is clearly refering to business use.

Don't be so naive, you think the 100 / 155Mbit warez hubs are run on home connections?

Depends what their business is. And yes, "warez hubs" are on fast business based connections, but why jump to the conclusion this is what this is? Oh I see, makes it easier to justify such a low cap (compared to other UK ISPs).

The most amusing thing about the NTL debacle is they announced these speed upgrades before anyone else, and just about every other ISP has managed to announce and roll out their own speed increases/price cuts, before NTL has managed to upgrade anyone.

Re: [Merged] *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please

Tricky to imagine a 19 year old using that much bandwidth on anything else, sorry.

As found from the details of the MX PTR and A record of the domain www.ntlworldsux.com

Anyway enough of this rather off topic discussion
