Re: Football Season 2011/12
We play Chelsea away but no date has been set due to chelsea's cup runs.
We play Liverpool next which could see Liverpool's chances of catching us over if they take anything less than 3 points.
We also have a say in the title race when we take on Man City at home
after Liverpool:
Swansea
Bolton
Stoke
Wigan
we have an easier run in than Chelsea but we'd have to take back to back wins to account for points dropped against a City team gunning for the title.

Do big clubs benefit from key refereeing decisions at home?.
Quote:
Manchester City executive Patrick Vieira believes title rivals Manchester United and other big clubs benefit from key refereeing decisions at home.
His comments come two days after visitors Fulham were controversially denied a late penalty in their 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford.
The result left United three points clear at the top of the league.
"When United play at home they get some advantage that other teams don't get," Vieira told BBC Sport.
“When United play at home they get some advantage that other teams don't get”
"I think when you go to United, Madrid, Barcelona, or Milan, when the referees referee these kind of games, it's always difficult to go against these kind of teams.

Re: Football Season 2011/12
Meh. The big clubs invariably do get big decisions at home, the focus is far more intense on the referee and it's human nature that he'll be favorabl to the big club when he is surrounded by 60,000 of their fans. Not to mention the pasting he will get from the manager and the press. It takes a lot, a lot, of guts to give a last minute penalty against United at Old Trafford in a title run in.
Look at it this way. Fulham get screwed out of a point? It's not really been a big issue this week other than a few snide remarks from City fans. If it wasn't a penalty and the ref gave it, screwing United out of 2 points? The ref's life would have been hell. So it's no wonder they go for the safer option on such a decision.

Not snide remarks..but pertinent remarks.
I did notice the excuses come rapid and fast after the game from Man Utd..."Oh, it looked like the player dived", "The ball moved, and it looked like he got the ball" etc
, but yeah..after seeing slow motion I can see"
Very big of Man Utd to accept the decision..shows they are big hearted, but one wonders what would have happened if the decision went aginast them...possibly Sir alex calling for the ref to be sacked?
And giggs tackle..no control, two footed, and never got the ball..a yellow? Hardly

Re: Football Season 2011/12
I see the conspiracists have skipped over my post where 7 other teams have conceded fewer penalties at home than Man Utd since 2006.
So it's actually harder to get a pen at Craven cottage than it is at Old Trafford.
But hey who let facts get in the way of a good rant
Team / Penalties conceded / Games / Penalties per game
Blackburn Rovers ** *18 ** *110 ** *0.16
Wolverhampton Wanderers ** *8 ** *53 ** *0.15
Wigan Athletic ** *16 ** *110 ** *0.15
West Bromwich Albion ** *7 ** *53 ** *0.13
Sunderland ** *11 ** *91 ** *0.12
Arsenal ** *11 ** *110 ** *0.1
Newcastle United ** *9 ** *91 ** *0.1
Manchester City ** *10 ** *110 ** *0.09
Stoke City ** *6 ** *72 ** *0.08
Manchester United ** *9 ** *110 ** *0.08
Everton ** *8 ** *110 ** *0.07
Bolton Wanderers ** *8 ** *110 ** *0.07
Tottenham Hotspur ** *8 ** *110 ** *0.07
Fulham ** *8 ** *110 ** *0.07
Liverpool ** *7 ** *110 ** *0.06
Aston Villa ** *6 ** *109 ** *0.06
Chelsea ** *6 ** *110 ** *0.05

Re: Football Season 2011/12
Not skipped over.
But just because a penalty is given, does not make it easier.
Would make more sense to list the penalties not given that should have been. If Man Utd had fewer of those..then that would be a stat.
Or indeed any ball going over the goal line by a yard or more and not being given a goal, that would be a stat
you could argue that Man Utd players are more clumsy..to the extent it would be impossible not to give a penalty..that I might believe

You've just proven the snide remark
Everyone moans about Utd, but would their own team run screaming over to the ref shouting, "Come on ref, we committed a definite penalty there!". I probably should have said "have their own team run screaming over to the ref shouting when it has happened to them", because no doubt they have benefited from a dodgy decision.
I am not saying that it's right, I just find it slightly hypocritical. Sort out the refs, that's where the problem lies. Give them help.

lol No..because you call it a snide remark, does not make it so.
Though I notice that when someone dares mention something about Man Utd..it automatically must be a "snide" comment..glass houses yada yada comes to mind

Another skip and now a deflection
It's really about people ignoring the fact that it has happened to most teams, for and against and it rarely gets mentioned. Sort out the problem.

Except that stat means nothing. If you had a ground..that have 100 penalty shouts, and only 4 were given...and another..that had only 3 penalty shouts, of which two were given...how is the stat that the ground given 4 is more likely to be given a penalty against?
It doesn't make sense...you are only trying to use a stat to prove a point, without all the facts. I suspect I could prove lots of things with half truths.
Quote me the stat that tells us how many claims of penalties..and of which those that should have been given..that would make more sense

I think there is a player in lower leagues that has scored a lot more goals than messi...does that make him a better goal scorer..i would argue no.
i view that stat the same as the number of pemalties given..means nothing without more info.

So, you've seen games with 100s of penalty shouts? and just because Patrick Viera said so, doesn't back you up either
...and you've missed the point...again...why focus on Utd, why not try to solve the problem of the ref's not being able to see it in real time?

Like I said fire away with pulling those stats together.
I've posted a stat showing that less penalties have been conceded at other grounds. You've come back with the claim that it's because there are more penalty shouts at Old Trafford than other grounds. So let's have the info you basing this on.
Or at least a stat showing how much time that the opposition spends in the penalty area at the grounds mentioned that we can have an idea of how likely a penalty is to be given.
