Re: 50Mb areas
Called on Monday to upgrade and the engineer will be around on friday.
Pretty fast turnaround.
But what surprised me is, by upgrading from 20mb, according to the woman on the phone, I will be paying £1 less per month.
Funny

Re: 50Mb areas
Interesting, it seems that although everyone has to pay the standard £30 call-out and £50 activation charge, many people seem to be getting different prices, can anyone explain why this is happening? (unless they have XL TV, XL Phone and XL Broadband already, though I'm just guessing).
It's not people are leaving Virgin Media, they are upgrading, meaning they know it will be a new 12 month contract, which in essence should mean they are made to pay the usual extortionate prices.
If they had been with Virgin Media for 12 months and decided to go with, lets say BT, who magically rolled out 100Mb (use your imagination), saying that they were offering faster speeds for less and that they had done a line test and told you that you could potentially be getting speeds of *up to* 60Mb download, then yes I'm sure they would be giving discounts to keep you as a customer, rather then jump to a rival ISP.
But this is a new service and I'm not convinced that many of the VM Sales staff have any idea what they are doing / talking about.
Shocking is all I have to say about that.

Re: 50Mb areas
Maybe they were paying too much in the first place? Maybe they're offering discounts to lomng-term customers? Dunno.. NTL certainly had people on various different price plans for the same packages - our monthly bill dropped by 50% when VM took over.

Re: 50Mb areas
From what I can tell it's not the price itself that is changing it's the increases to people's bills that's changing, depending what they have already.
The base price of the product is the same, just bundle discounts, etc, that seem to vary. It's still 35GBP a month with a phone line and 50 quid on its' own as I'm sure someone's bill will bear out. No discounts on the 50Mbit itself.

Re: 50Mb areas
Approx. 6.25MB/s, though it could go to 6.40MB/s.
1024 * 50 / 8
If I'm correct?

Well im paying only £1 more after the £80 installation and activation - thats because I was on the L package and now im on the M package for TV, I was getting something like 11 quid discount, so thats why the price varies a bit.
About the '100mbps' from BT, I read theoretically it can be 60mb max, and also it would take training, especially since most of the staff are in India, but then again BT will start the roll out in 2012 and it's only available for 40 percent, by which time VM will have probably introduced 100mbps or higher!

Hopefully come Friday afternoon, I'll have a screenshot of it working at full speed, should everything go right!
