Not really. The V+HD isn't compatible with the new software. Upgrade incentives and promotions should follow to move the customer base off V+, but in the mean time it is fully supported by VM.

they are obsolete in my eyes, same box and same menus etc as the tv drive box that i had with telewest around 8 years ago, boxes are horribly slow, prone to freezing and failed recordings, just looking forward to gettin a tivo box which works properly

thats just a polite way to say obsolete !!!
regardless of the so called support there is nothing new happening to the platform in terms of new EPG, platform updates ect which means VM have all but washed their hands of the platform.
sure the new channels will come but other than that thats it. its hardly full support more like legacy support for an obsolete platform at best and the only reason VM will keep this limited legacy support is so they dont loose money to people refusing to pay a fortune to be move to the TiVo platform and VM having to subsidise the move.

Not true. Virgin are still working on updates to the existing platform where appropriate - for example the Sky Sports Red button services
But as the existing platform is extremely limited in what more it can do, you aren't going to see any major changes.

Yeah I thought that was the whole point of TiVo, the old Liberate platform is stretched as far as possible as it is?

That's possibly because the contract ends soon with Liberate doesn't it ?

Liberate is old tech, which means it's limited in what Virgin can do with it, so no iPlayer app etc
Which is why TiVo was selected for the new platform, which in turn means it can do new funky things the older boxes can't

Just a quick one Ben , on the TIVO thread someone sarcastically stated can't every box run iplayer , I think I'm right in saying here that my Sky+HD box can't run the iplayer app is that correct ?

Actually I have no idea. Theorectically the Sky+HD box could access iPlayer content as it can be connected to router (as is required when you have Sky BBI and Anytime+). However I don't know whether it could run a iPlayer Flash app like TiVo could, or whether Sky would need to get a specific app development for it's firmware platform

I see your point but VM have to move on , how many customers would VM lose if they kept V+ for years to come.

I think it's Sky wanting it integrated in their platform so may not actually be incompatible

It's a big one up for TIVO anyway.

It's only obsolete insofar as it won't do the new 'connected' things. But all connected functionality requires new equipment if the current equipment is more than a year old.
My Panny BD35 Blueray player is obsolete from your perspective, because it can't get connected content like my Sony BD370 can. Panasonic have no plans to upgrade the BD35 to get connected content, they expect you to buy a new model if you want connected TV functionality.
The BD35 still plays bluerays though and does the job it was designed for; If I want the new stuff, I need new equipment. Same applies to PVRs.

I had hardly any issues with my Samsung V+ box apart from missing a few endings off ESPN , just the capacity wasn't great for recording HD.

Maybe not Flash specifically, but I'd suspect the Sky+HD box to be powerful enough to take an implementation of the iPlayer app from the BBC.
Problem is, Sky don't want this, they want an approach where they just drop the content into their existing infrastructure (not unlike the legacy iPlayer VM have), and the BBC Trust have decided that is a no-no moving forward as the BBC will be controlling the availability and syndication of the content (meaning providers can't just take Top Gear and Eastenders and bin what they deem to be "unpopular")

Yes but I believe that would involve Sky paying the BBC for it to be written

Agreed. Space is an issue, but everything else is fine.
I once had a problem where the box reset randomly and got stuck on a code (usually one of the ones that appear on boot). A simple unplug and plug in solved it.
