Judas Unchained, still, Peter F. Hamilton, good stuff, reminiscent of old style like the lensman series, but much more sophisticated

I`d never actually read a fantasy type book until someone gave me the Magician one day, telling me how fantastic it was and how i really had to read it.
It Lay on a shelf for months until one night i realised i never had anything else to read....turned out he was absolutely right of course
I dont think i read it as quick as you though .
You must have had trouble sleeping that night i take it.......all that excitement about Santa coming was it.
Now thats the one book that is a constant here at home.
I dont read it much mind you,i just hand the money over after others have read it

In Ghat they believe in vampire watermelons, although folklore is silent about what they believe about vampire watermelons. Possibly they suck back.-- (Terry Pratchett, Carpe Jugulum)

Re-reading Stand on Zanzibar by John Brunner. First read it in the 70s, thoroughly enjoyed it at the time but then lost/lent out my copy. Found it on line and decided to see if it had stood the test of time. It does.

Agreed. I read this twice, too, and if anything enjoyed it more the second time around.

For anyone who hasn't read it, the title refers to an area the size of the island of Zanzibar upon which the entire human population (7 billion in 2010) can stand shoulder-to-shoulder.
