Re: [Merged] Football talk
7 -Nil. Not bad, but you know who has a better record in the Premiership.
Man U 9 -Ipswich 0 1995
Newcastle 8- Sheff Wed 0 1999
Forest 1- Man U 8 1999
Blackburn 7-Forest 0 1995
Man U 7-Barnsley 0 1997
Arsenal 7-Everton 0 2005
Good to see Forest doing their bit eh.

Re: [Merged] Football talk
All credit to Arsenal, that was some amazing football!
What time did Everton kick off at last night?
About every 10 minutes!
Anyone seen my coat?

Let's see where those teams ended the season:
Ipswich 1994/95 - Bottom
Sheff Wed 1999/2000 - Second bottom
Forest 1998/99 - Bottom
Forest 1995/96 - 9th
Barnsley 1997/98 - Second bottom
Everton 2004/5 - 4th
So most of them were total pants - only Blackburn's achievement in 1995 (which was on the 18th November against the side finishing third the previous year, and Forest were several places above Blackburn at the time) beats last night to my mind. Sorry for bringing up painful memories, nffc.
Shearer 20,57,68, Bohinen 28,76, Newell 82, La Saux 89 were the scorers.
United fans might enjoy the fact that they won 4-1 at home to Southampton that day, while Arsenal lost 2-1 at Spurs. Bother. Our scorer was a certain D. Bergkamp, though.
United's were Giggsx2, Scholes and Cole.

And bang went our 25-game unbeaten run. Which IIRC included a 7-1 win at Hillsborough and winning 2-1 at Old Trafford (maybe that was before).
We were in Europe that season as well, QFs against Bayern Munich (the real Munich)...
For a side finishing 9th we got thrashed a lot. 7-0, 5-1 v Blackburn, 5-0 at Old Trafford (we should have won the game at home 1-0 but ref gave a dodgy pen), and 5-1 in the home leg of the UEFA cup QF. Ouch. We were relegated the season after.
That's not painful but seeing as that was only 10 years in the past makes now more unbearable seeing as it's going to be 2 years minimum before we'll be in the top flight if ever.
Oh and Sheff W 1-7 Forest should be on there seeing as it's only one off the record away win in the PL. None of them are as bad as Ipswich 6-0 Forest from this season though.

Re: [Merged] Football talk
What are the chances there'll be a contract on his head before the year is out....
edit:
Quote:
If he gets 75% plus one share, the club could be delisted from the stock exchange and Mr Glazer could transfer his debt onto the club.

Re: [Merged] Football talk
Only ones that are PLCs, surely? If Mr. Glazer had tried to take over Chelsea by buying shares he would have found himself being roundly laughed at - there aren't any - the blue **** operate on the One Man One Vote Lots Of Roubles principle.

Re: [Merged] Football talk
I'm talking about implications with the amount of money other clubs recieve.
Glazer will put the club into £300m worth of debt. Whats his main plan to recoup this money? By pulling Man Utd out of the collective bargaining agreement and negotiating their own TV deals.
There was a Deloitte and Touche report, which I can't find links to, that stated that foreign TV deals without Man Utd could be worth up to 40% less than current deals. Sky deals would also be worth less as well.
It could even go the way of Italy where teams have their own TV agreements. There is a massive difference in monetary terms between Milan's TV deal and say Atalanta's.

Re: [Merged] Football talk
I see. Be interesting watching him stare down Mr. Murdoch - after all, Sky have been inextricably linked to the fortunes of Man Utd for years now. Could all go very smelly.

Re: [Merged] Football talk
Remember you're talking about a man who sued his own sister.
Quote:
Glazer's sister comments about the litigation over their motherÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šà ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s will: †œThe family were all so close but he just made mincemeat of them all. He made sure they ended up with virtually nothing. He would rather have spent the money on court fees than give them a cent. It was incredibly mean, but also incredibly sad.ââ‚ ¬Ã‚ÂÂ
