Re: NTL SPEED UPGRADE which area & when upgraded.
This thread will be merged shortly with the thread we already have running on the speed upgrades-that's why it's called "*ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please"
Sorry, but we have to keep this subect tightly locked, as otherwise there will be people who are too lazy to search just creating new threads left, right, & centre (that's why we did it in the 1st place)

It's also rather premature for it's intended purpose - nowhere is being upgraded yet.

I'm sure people will be posting ASAP so that they can be the 1st to tell us all that they've been upgraded, but as Paul has said already-nothing is happening yet.
Patience my young Padawan.....

They made a public announcement which isnt direct advertising but it is a publicity stunt used to make potential customers think hey this isp is good I will sign up.

What are ntl doing to compete with the 8mb adsl that will be available from BT by the autumn? Paying £25 to upgrade to 1,2,3mb seems like a waste of money if you are near enough a BT exchange to get 8mb.

I suspect they'll offer a 8mb service if/when BT's 8mb becomes a clear and present danger.

Re: [Merged] *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please
I just spoke on phone to a manager in ntl HQ Glasgow, although he didnt know when the glasgow upgrades will go ahead he did admit that other parts of the uk have already got the wheels in motion though.
He also says there is NO mention of any admin fee (£25) and caps wont be enforced heavy duty like some of you are saying, infact caps have always been in place with ntl broadband its just that they dont enforce them too much unless they find someone ripping the crap right out it, I.E- running a buisness using ntl broadband etc, they will come down heavy on idiots like that.
So I hope this info helps ease some pain till your upgrade comes along, I cant wait for it

Re: [Merged] *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please
sounds like poor internal communication as the official document we've all seen talks about a £25 fee. perhaps this is a fee but a 'token' fee which will be waived for the first 3 months as a 'special offer'.

Re: [Merged] *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please
Let's say your area HAS been upgraded, how would you know it's been done? You have to pay to upgrade so it's not like it'd be an automatic thing. From what I've read above anyway.

Sorry didnt explain very well,:o he said that there would be a fee but wasnt sure how it was to be implemented as the previous post points out, how are we to know its there and we can upgrade unless they start an advert campaign or something?

Yes over 99% of customers have already been upgraded prior to any announcement, or indeed upgrade, and if you are one of the few not to have been done yet, then you really need to be on the list to be able to view the list that applies.
It is entirely possible that suddenly you will be informed of an upgrade, in which case you can consider yourself to be on the list, unless of course your speed suddenly increases without you being on a list of customers to be notified they are listed to be historically upgraded, further to them doing an upgrade.
