Re: TiVo
Someone with a V+ box and a TIVO box post pics so we can see the difference, if there is any.
Also post your TV model and Amp in your using one.

Yep, although if someone can grab the direct feed that would eliminate the effect of the TV/AV Receiver.

I don't need to. The difference is so great it was blindingly obvious as soon as I switched the TiVo on!

With my Samsung V+ I was constantly impressed with the quality of SD channels, with TiVo I am thinking 'how bad is this?' - it is like watching a poor quality, downloaded movie. Low quality video has distinguishable features, just like low quality mp3 files do. I am quite aware of what I am seeing.

Secondly, when you had the mini guide on with the V+, pressing the "info" button opened the info page, with the TiVo it seems to have no effect at all. In order to get the info page open I actually have to go to the channel in question or open the full guide and do it from there.
Just wondered if it was me being dense, or have other people found the same! If it isn't me being dense, are these things likely to be changed in the future?

Not seen an answer to this. Can anybody with a Tivo confirm that if you only part watch a recording, you can start where you left off or at least input a manual start time during the recording? My wife and I often do this and wouldn't want to have to fast forward from the start of a recording to guess where you last watched to.

Thanks for the info.
Are you talking about compression artefacts like blocking or are you talking about a softening of the picture?

You can resume where you left off, but I don't think you can input a time.
However, you can skip in 15 min chunks along the time line, so can usually get to where you want quickly

That seems a step back from V+ , also you can't set reminders I believe.

I suppose it depends on how TiVo thought people would use the UI.
As for the reminder thing, no you can't set them. As to why, I'm sure that's already been discussed at length on here (and I know it certainly has on other forums). It's never been part of the TiVo experience, which is why it's not in the Virgin TiVo box.

Re: TiVo
I can live without them for now but would recommend they are on the wish list for "enhancements".
The SD PQ is more of a concern as some people (not all) have stated they have a poorer PQ when the Tivo is installed which is not good. I'm hoping I see no difference with my setup.

I don't see any noticeable difference on my setup. But now I have the hard drive space I don't think I have actually watched an SD programme in the whole 7 days I've had it. The HD picture to my eyes, on my setup, is better than the Samsung V+. I would urge those who are putting it off purely because of the SD quality should reconsider. Until you actually experience the Tivo properly, you can't really appreciate it fully.
As far as functionality goes it like upgrading your Nokia 3210 to an iPhone (I know some of you are probably thinking, "but the iPhone isn't all that" I think that too, but for the purpose of comparison I shall use it as an example)!

I'm guessing this is down to the TV itself. I have a Sony Bravia which does an excellant job of upscalling on it's own. I don't have TIVO but I'm guessing the people not having issues have higher end tv's. I'm probably way off base with that though .
That would imply to me that the TIVO upscaling is inferior to the V+ upscaling at the moment.

Re: TiVo
A little trick to get a reminder on your TiVo... Set the programme to record, and any other recording to start a little earlier (two others once you get the 3-tuner software). It will display a message a minute before it needs to use the live TV tuner to do the recording.
And even if you miss the reminder you'll still end up with the programme recorded.

I have a Sony Bravia HX803 myself and currently have an excellent picture so hoping there is no difference as far as I am concerned.
There is plenty of SD content out there for latest programmes so want to make sure it still looks good.
