IT isnt obvious either how to use it... you say press clear but no where on screen does it show you that option or what to press so unless I asked I wouldnt know.

I do have to say it is dissapointing so far... to say I have paid £149 and then you have £3 a month for a few extra features such as extra tuner and wishlists etc the rest is kind of shoddy.
The on demand content is no more or less than with V+ and no one ever suggested Otherwise. Just set your season pass for 'three in a bed' and you will never need 4OD in future!

it seem quite obvious 'clear' will delete things and the guide book also explains it. V+ had similar shortcuts that were not prompted on screen.

I think you will really start to see the benefits the more you play with the Tivo but if not and you are happier with the VCR like approach of V+ then you should certainly cancel your contract.

When I first saw it, I thought it looked very soft. However I then realised I was watching Friends on Channel 4, a channel not known for showing Friends in a high broadcast quality. I changed the settings to put pillarboxes on 4:3 content, and it looked better. I watched BBC News, and that looked just like before. HD is the same, it's still very good.

Seems a bit unfair to compare the V+ with a VCR

Perhaps unfair in terms of the data storage but not in terms of intelligence.

When I moved from Tivo S1 to V+ (for HD) I really could not believe the huge retrograde step in terms of user interface and functionality.

V+ records what you ask (if you are lucky!) nothing more - just like a VCR. it doesnt evn realise when a new series of something you have previously recorded has started.

Tivo is proactive - you tell it what you definately want to record and what programmes you like and it gets to work pulling in content for you proactively.

In these respects, at least, V+ is much closer to a VCR than to Tivo.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

I suppose it's what you want really if I want to record Waterloo Road , I series link it and it records every week unlike one of the posters here who had recordings of it from every BBC channel , each to their own.

I am very technical minded and wanted the next generation tv but even technical minded people need some instruction... on the screen the clear button should be shown what it does like for example one of the screens the last channel button shows up as being the search shortcut button.

I just feel that for a premium product that they are charging £150 for and £3 a month that there should be hardly any issues and as soon as they are reported a software fix should be put in place asap.

Weird. 99% of my SLs work fine with NO padding and record exactly the right episodes. But then again, I'm recording the popular shows on the popular channels. The data might get worse for the lesser shows on lesser channels.

Erm... why did you think there would be any more content? You can only get the same channels and the same OD

Clear to me means clear something on the screen like a guide or some text or something, delete would be a more appropriate word to use.

I am sure I will get to grips with it more once I get in touch but having come from sky where the on screen menus are really easy to use and you dont have to go across and select individual letters when you search for something the user interface seems a step down so far.

The only reason I wanted to watch three in a bed was because I had recorded it on sky and that was all disconnected this morning so I was hoping for this to be on the on demand.

Love the bbc iplayer and once this is integrated into the guide will be fab... Think the same should go for itv player and also 4od needs to have an app like iplayer.

I set The Simpsons on Sky1 HD (the new episodes on Comedy Fridays) to record on 'New' only and it didn't appear on the guide as Series Link right afterwards, like on other series links when I chose 'New & Reruns', such as Modern Family which is right after The Simpsons on Comedy Fridays.

I dont know, i guess I just presumed (which is wrong to do) I jsut thought there would be more content.

I prefer how the tv catchup menus work on the V+ though and the fact you can search for things specifically in tv catchup.

Yes I know you can search for it in the general tv listings and go through to it that way but it doesnt seem to work and I have to trawl through episodes to get to the one I want and then it only gives me the option to go to on demand anyway screen anyway to search for it manually... again another thing that hasnt impressed me or flat mates. IN the advertising video that I showed them everyone was like wow but its so long winded.

WHen I was showing it to my flat mates tonight all these little things that should be working that are not have not impressed them and they think I am daft to have spent this ammount of money on something that has a longer way round of doing things than the V+.

I have just tried this out and it just scheduled one recording for WR on BBC1 HD - so it looks like the fault is sorted or was specific to that box if not user error.

And unlike V+ it will now (shudder the thought) record every series of WR without me having to

a) realise a new series is starting
b) set up a new series pass

It will also proactively record and suggest lots of other content like Waterloo Road which I may not otherwise have discovered!

Yikes off to cancel a season pass!

On the point about the EPG when you first get it the data is stored day by day ie in 3 days time you will have 3 days backwards EPG. It will never be an issue after the initial install.

You also have to wait for the programmes which will appear in catchup to be added (as you do with V+). i think its usually 24 hours. So in a couple of days you will certainly be able to play anything marked with a c in todays EPG straight from the EPG.

Hope that helps.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

I have set number of series links and had the programmes finish early.
I know I have to train myself to always add padding, but why?
In the olden days, before TV recorders, the channels were meticulous with their timing.
Now, in the age of PVRs, they are sloppy.
Only in exceptional circumstances did programmes overrun, now it is the norm.

I am seeing the C in todays listings but when I go into it just shows "go to catchup tv" for example britains got talent, this was on last week so I would expect it to let me access last weeks catchup program from tonights listing but it just tells me to go to catchup tv which takes me to the main screen. It doesnt seem integrated whereas it should automatically show me all episodes available when I click "go to catchup tv" from the epg even if I have just had the box installed today as this isnt something that is stored on my box.
