Well-placed source convinced Boris Johnson won’t quit, even if the 22 change the rules, and he loses a VONC.
Instead, he’ll claim he has a mandate from 14m voters, and will threaten to force an election - but not before deselecting everyone who voted against him

Johnson thinking only of himself, and not abiding by the rules, accepted standards, and expectations of appropriate behaviour?
Well, who'd have possibly thought it?
It's not as if his past history and behaviours could have possibly given anyone any idea this is how he might behave...
Remember the 7 Nolan principles of standards in public life (how politicians, civil servants, charity trustees etc are bound to act in public roles)
Quote:
1 Selflessness.
2 Integrity.
3 Objectivity.
4 Accountability.
5 Openness.
6 Honesty.
7 Leadership

Re: Partygate & Beergate discussion
So we've got to 26, sorry 27 as I type, resignations since 6pm last night. Wonder how many by 6pm today?
Was it ever this bad at the heyday of people refusing to work for Jezza?
You know it's bad when even OB is missing in action.

Re: Partygate & Beergate discussion
6 ministers have gone in the last few mins, Gove has told Johnson to go.
Can't see how Johnson can string this out to force a VONC. He won't have any Ministers left.

If this doesn’t bring him down, nothing will.

Re: Partygate & Beergate discussion
Resigning in bulk now - 5 in one letter. There aren't going to many Parliamentary Private Secretaries or Under Secretaries left at this rate. I guess each and every minister and PPS is judging the value of Boris Johnson patronage and what will happen if and when he goes. Those ministers who are fiercely loyal to Johnson (Dorries, Truss, Patel, Rees-Mogg, Old Boy ) are gong to spend a loooooong time on the back benches...

Re: Partygate & Beergate discussion
A word of warning, those wanting Johnson gone are those who think he isn’t conservative enough.
A period of austerity beckons, after he is toppled.
Don’t expect anymore handouts anytime soon.

That is the motivation behind some of his detractors but that group never got the numbers. It's these scandals that are toppling him and ultimately MPs who think the gig is up and are worried for their own seats.
I think another bout of austerity during a cost-of-living crisis and an NHS with very high waiting times will be a bold move from his successor (if he goes).
