Re: The Football Thread 2005/2006 Season
Pah... I was actually thinking of the money we'd be getting. He'd better work his socks off for the entire season.

Well, he's averaging a goal every 30 minutes so far. What do you want, blood?
Anyway, Vieira's gone to Juventus for £14m. Good luck to him, it creates a big hole but solves two questions - where do you play Fabregas and how do you tell Vieira we need a better captain. Arsenal's best midfield pairing last season was Fabregas and Gilberto, which is presumably #1 choice for the start of next season.
Another bonus is that the **** tabloid journos will have to find another story to fill the papers up with for the next six weeks. I reckon Thierry Henry's going to Berwick Rangers for £1.50 and a scotch egg. You heard it here first.
A quick word for Jose Mourinho. Shut up.

I wouldn't bother - the world has been saying that to Wenger for the last few years to no avail.

Re: The Football Thread 2005/2006 Season
I got np with Jose and arsene, anyone who stops Man U winning things has my vote.
But arsenal are looking to be weak this year, I think bergkamp will struggle and losing pires and vieira will hit them, they did good business tho 14m for 29 year old.

Re: The Football Thread 2005/2006 Season
well lets not forget the only reason Chelsea never got done for taking Arseson from Spurs was because they paid them off.. they should be starting with a 6 point deficit

Give Fergie that amount of money to spend, no other team would ever win anything for years, lets be realistic Chelski bought the title, at least United moulded a team over a number of years. Respect.

Re: The Football Thread 2005/2006 Season
Before Chelsea had the billionaire Man U were in a league of their own with money, Man U fans find it hard to see it. Lets see how far fergie gets with a wage budget 20% of what he got now and 10 mill transfer budget.

Re: The Football Thread 2005/2006 Season
Can someone please tell me why clubs try to sign players like Nicolas Anelka for?
I wouldn't touch players like that with a ten foot barge pole, with their track record of arriving, have a barney with the club within a few months, then leave a month later.
If the story is true, it just seems stupid to me.

Sure
Van Nistelrooy 19m
Rooney 27m
Ronaldinho
Ferdinand 30m
Veron 25m
Barthez 7.8m
Carrol 2.5m
Schmeichel
Saha mid season transfer 8 figure sum (normal team would just use a rookie striker)
source for the valuations http://endlesssoccer.tripod.com/tran..._transfers.htm unvalued players were expensive. There are dozens of players who are not listed but cost 7 figures, Man Utd have had the luxury of spending millions on a player who they dont play all season, leaving them with a large squad and of course large wage bill, this is a luxury that other teams have not been able to match eg. having a diff team for each competition. Keeping his premiership side fit for league games. Of course everyone who isnt a man utd fan knows this, but the spoilt glory hunting man utd fans either refuse to believe it or just dont realise it, they see a potential 25m annual cap as low when its still higher then 80% of the premiership.

How many of the players you have listed helped Manchester United win Premiership titles? Van Nistelrooy, Schmeichel and possibly Ferdinand, the rest of the players never really added to the team or have yet to do much (Rooney).
The players Manchester United have won titles with are home grown players such as Giggs, Beckham, Brown, Scholes, Gary and Phil Neville, so really having no money may help Ferguson bring up younger players which has worked in the past, something that Chelsea havent and probably wont do.
