They're not perfect, but at least slowly changing for the better? The 0845 number is being phased out for NTL direct customers, so at least that's a good move. As for internet support on 0870, that's staying, but I don't have to call that anything as often as Customer Services.....!

Re: Phone Prices

We've also had this letter through, and we're seriously considering swapping providers. They know how to do it though - tie everyone down in packages and then up the costs.

We have phone, internet and TV from them. I looked on the internet to see how much broadband and TV from them would cost, and it appears that if you buy broadband, you also have to have a phone package!

Do you think it'd be possible to cancel the phone from our package, but still keep the broadband?

Also, while I was at it, I got a quote on all the services we currently have, and also put in that we are an existing customer with these services. The quote came out a little over £10/month cheaper than what we are currently paying (that is excluding our call charges, of course). How does that work?!

The ONLY thing they insist you take is tied in with the TV service, you have to take the phone service (or not use it, its your choice). Broadband isn;t penalised this way so if you just want BB, that's all you need to take.

Be careful not to confuse discounts that are provided to new customers at sign up, as these can cause your calculations to throw something up like that. All is not lost, however, as if you feel you have had enough, a call to disconnections ('Retentions') can often bring price amendments you were unaware of. Just tell them the truth, the costs are getting too high and you have to cut back.

I believe it is so, as I would expect that will be what I will do after I talk to retentions tomorrow.

5 hours of free landline calls per week. no credit card needed to set up, works with 01 and 02 dialing codes.

I've been using it for a little over a week now and it works fine.

Re: Phone Prices

NTL = 6p + 3p/min

BT = 3p/min daytime, 5.5p up to an hour evening and weekends. I've quit NTL today. Will be keeping Broadband for a little while, though, until I see the ADSL deal I want.

If you have cable broadband, you'll regret downsizing to ADSL. I tried it for a year or so then went back to cable, despite the hassles it was a much more robust system.

Different product - I assume you meant the newly launched NTL 'freeview' equivalent? You get a limited bunch of channels, entirely free, but only if you take the phone line.

I was referring to the standard Base Package (or even Family & Premiums) whereby even if you ONLY want TV, you're forced into paying for the phone service line rental.

Re: Phone Prices

Can anyone who knows please confirm the price per minute of a weekend national call on the Talk Weekend package after the price increases. According to NTL's website currently, all national calls are free at the weekend (ignoring connection charges, etc.) But the price change web page now lists national calls on Talk Weekend as being 3p/min, with only local/cable-to-cable calls now being 0p/min.

Have emailed NTL but just got the stock "we cannot divulge information about your account by email" response back.

Help!

Re: Phone Prices

talk weekend starts midnight friday until midnight sunday.
any local or national call is free for the first hour between these times.
if the call goes over the hour with no break in connection then it will be charged at 3p p/m
also no connection charge on weekend calls with this talk plan

btw although TW is now the basic talk plan it doesnt include weekday evening free local cable - cable calls like the 321 did

I'm aware of how Talk Weekend works currently, what I'm asking is how much a national call at, say, 3pm Saturday afternoon will cost me per minute after the price increase. The price change web page does indiciate that it is going up to 3p/min (with only local/cable calls being free), but is this a misprint or is it really true?

Re: Phone Prices

its a misprint the talk weekend package will still include free calls to any UK landline on the weekend.

what thet meant and should have said was if your not on an unlimted talk plan a call on the weekend will cost 3p per min whereas before it would have been 1.
