Which firewall did you misconfigure ? every firewall I've used (as long as you block incoming ping) has stealthed me, straight out of the box.

I have my router, with hardware firewall, but you still need something for outbound. Jetico, and (I think) Look n Stop were the best at stopping anything outbound, so, as I'm a tight bugger, I installed Jetico as it's free.

Jetico user here too, brilliant little firewall. Hopefully the new version will be out soon

Well maybe misconfigure was the wrong word. I remember having a problem with shields up failing on about 1-4 ports showing as open or closed rather than stealthed, i think it was with ZA, Outpost and maybe even Kerio at some point although Kerio is working fine now. Never saw an issue with Sygate though.

If Kerio ever lets me down maybe i'll try Jetico.
