Possibly, I wonder. Are the symptoms we are seeing now the same?
Like uno says though, could be a knacked or partially knacked dns.

I admit my knowledge of DDOS attacks is rather limited, but would not a DDOS affect all service, not just select websites, as appeared to be the case? That would be unless the DDOS was on the side of Google/bbc/yahoo but I'm pretty sure that wasn't the case here.

Belfast, Northern Ireland - yahoo & ebay, amongst others, are inaccessible at the moment.

If you can resolve the IP address, but not the domain name, it points very much towards NTL's 'infamous' DNS servers.

Re: Connection to BBC/Google etc?

seems like NTL servers are getting dossed again.
if they cant control it i can see them losing loads of customers

Re: Connection to BBC/Google etc?

And in Harrogate/Knaresborough

This doesn't seem like a DDoS, more like a knackered DNS server due to the focused nature of the problem i.e. popular sites such as Google, Yahoo & the BBC.

Last time this happened I rang India (or NTL as it is otherwise known) and was told "no problems sir, reboot your stb".

I really hate NTL, if we could recieve Terristrial signals or were allowed to put a Sky dish up (building is listed and next to a cliff face) then I would drop NTL like David Seaman.

I hope this gets sorted soon and they offer a proper explanation.

Cheers
D

Re: Connection to BBC/Google etc?

Seems my rejoice for it working was premature. Google once again down, now BBC is very weird (no stylesheet) and I've lost yahoo now too

I'd agree - for now, I'm surfing by IP, and all is fine.
