Re: analouge or digital ? can you help me undersand.

what about all the people that are on analogue - paid for by the local council? Would they be automatically upgraded for free, or have to pay for digital and subscriptions? My neighbours are elderly and can barely work a normal remote control with a few buttons... lol

oh and I much prefer digital to analogue - when there's a sports thing on and it has the options to change matches - like Wimbledon, it's great! And there are a lot of films to choose from for no more than it'd be to rent a dvd, music videos are cheap, that karaoke thing is fun, & there's loads more tv channels

I suspect the council will have to issue them with Free-to-View STBs in the same way that those OAPs with standard ariels will be given FreeView boxes before analogue switch-off.

In my opinoion(and thats all it is),i wouldnt let the thought of NTL switching off analogue in the near future influence you in anyway, as they ve been saying they are about to do so for a few years now.One other thing to bare in mind(and again this is just my reckoning),when ntl do finally go "all digital",rather than loose paying customers that are on analogue,im sure they will automatically swop over everybody to digital at no extra cost?

well I'm quite pleasantly surprised.

- I had my NTL analogue TV service swapped to digital, today and it couldn't have gone any smoother. The technician set the new box to use the same RF frequency as the old one, so there was no need to change the VCR or TV tuning and the 'hit' for the box had been pre-booked, so all the channels came through straight away.

Just getting used to having so many more channels, now

Out of interest, what do you think in terms of picture quality?

On our 28" CRT it is not noticeably different - slightly better, if anything and it now fills the screen properly, which is a definite improvement.

On my TFT monitor via a tv card, it seems a little 'pastel', in comparison, but I currently have it on composite, until I can get a long enough scart lead to go from the STB to my VCR, when it should be ok set on RGB. As it is, I am still only connected with RF.

Now may be the time to think about a DVI cable for the monitor, as well

Re: analouge or digital ? can you help me undersand.

Why I chose NTL over freeview or analogue :

- A lot more channels are being pulled off Analogue and have become exclusively digitial channels. Over time that will change even more so.

- All NTL's promotions, special offers and investments are in directed into digital not analogue. NTL's DTV service is changing rapidly and is a far superior product to the analogue stb.

- I can order movies, music and watch my favourite TV programmes on my NTL = only in VOD areas. You check if you can recieve VOD on their website.
