Re: Manchester proxy

I envy you grrrrr.

These proxies stop the ability of optimising dns lookups locally, been able to use site's error free, avoid proxy congestion and use http 1.1 to its full specification.

Re: Manchester proxy

Could anyone suggest why NTL have proxy problems in manchester they keep trying to get them to work and they keep falling over.

It seems to be only the manc and baguley ones

I seem to remember many threads on the subject is it that hard to get proxies working

Re: Manchester proxy

What amazes me is that they have spent many thousands of pounds on this even getting a company to manage them and they still fall over.

First they dont have enough proxies then we are told the proxies have loads of capacity

Looks like a bit of bad luck NTL is having, or they have not got the capacity again

Re: Manchester proxy

The Manc proxies were shifted to a new IP range not that long ago. I assumed it was becuase the IP address for manc1 was the one most commonly given out as a quick fix by techs.
Odd that they turned the whole shebang off when only one seems to be having problems, unless they're doing some sort of testing.

They can leave them off for me sell them to AOL or some other company.

I gave up moaning about the crappy things, they certainly know they are bad here, but they are still switched on

Re: Manchester proxy

What i find strange is when we debated the proxy issues problems we turned into targets for certain NTL workers on this site.

In fact it was said the proxies are so good we would not realise how good they are because it would be seamless surfing

Now the proxies are off not a sign of anyone explaining it

Ever get the feeling the argument is a bit one sided

Re: Manchester proxy

I have received a statement from ntl this afternoon regarding the Manchester proxies currently being switched off, ntl networks state:-

"After a recent upgrade to the routers we identified that there was a degration in the performance of the caching. Investigations are underway as to why the performance degraded. In the meantime to ensure that customers were not adversely affected the web caching was switched off. This is a temporarily matter while investigations continue."
