Re: What is your TV size and screen type?

Until I won the 48" OLED we had a 28" CRT that did fine. My wife sits around 1m from the set and I am about 3m away. The CRT was given away to someone who wanted a set for their kids Playstation 1. I would have kept the CRT as long as it worked, given how well CRT's work that could have been decades.

Re: What is your TV size and screen type?

They really aren't for theatres.

You can't possibly see much on a 14/15" the TV in my bedroom in 1992 was a 14" CRT. The last CRT I owned was 32" and that was 2002.

Even my PC monitor is 27"

Indeed. My Sony Bravia replaced a 28" Philips FST CRT set with frame store and 100Hz refresh. This was about as good as the old technology got.

In some ways, but sound on modern tvs isn't as good, presumably due to them being thin. Not everyone wants sound bars or home theatre systems cluttering up the place

I had a full A/V amp and 5.1 set up but went to a soundboard and sub same brand and range as my Samsung QLED. Means I can add wireless surround speakers and it also adds in the TV speakers in what Samsung call QSymphony.

The TV does actually have decent sound on its own as the speakers are behind the screen and not below. So big sound come right at you. Decent bass on them too.

Same here with my new setup it also uses Qsymphony I don't want to add separate rears though it'll annoy the neighbour for sure as it's so peaceful where I live and I don't want to hear other people's noise.

Re: What is your TV size and screen type?

I have a Samsung series 7, which I bought in 2018. It has a 4K LCD panel which is still great. However, it was designed at a point when streaming apps were considered an add-on rather than the device’s principal function, and as we now receive all our TV over IP (both broadcast and on-demand streaming) it suffers a little from a lack of onboard memory. Apps take a while to start up (some are worse than others) and occasionally Prime and Paramount will refuse to play a show. You have to reboot the TV to make them work. I suspect this is because they have given Netflix preferential treatment and it never seems to quite quit running in the background even when you ask it to.

I suspect we will end up replacing it by this time next year but it is likely to be apps grinding to a halt or refusing to update rather than panel quality that will be the reason.
