Re: Petrol Additives
Redex was the additive to use back in the 60's, I haven't used it since 2000 when I got a new Zafira!

I used to religiously fill up at the shell garage but with the increased prices they really took the piss at my local garage costing so much more than everywhere else. So I started to drive to bit further to Tesco during that and never gone back to Shell since.
One would assume that the Shell 99 octane had better additives than Tesco's (if they have any) but the drive is exactly the same.
Because its a performance car I can definitely tell the difference between using E5 vs E10 though. Its why I stuck with it from the start.

Re: Petrol Additives
I have no choice but to use E5 in my car, unless I want to end up in the garage sooner than expected! I use either Tesco or Shell. Both do a good job. Never been impressed with the BP ultimate fuel. The car never feels as punchy as it does with Shell.

Re: Petrol Additives
Shell E5 fuel used in my 05 Meriva plus expensive petrol mower used by our group cutting grass in the local church yard.
Without the Ethanol mix of E10 much better responce/less contamination of fuel lines.

Re: Petrol Additives
When E10 started appearing on forecourts I switched to using Super Unleaded (E5) in my petrol mower, not because of performance issues but because there’s a long off-season in Scotland when E10 left sitting in the mower or in the jerrycan might degrade and cause me problems next year.
But jings and crivvens, my old mower revved like something out of F1 the first time I put Super in it

Re: Petrol Additives
I'd say most modern engines would not need additives, especially not on E5, as the fuel likely already does the job. If you get your car properly serviced the garage could tell if you need something extra while they change filters/plugs etc.

Re: Petrol Additives
Zx1 Extralube. Whenever I get a new car I always buy some for the oil tank, fuel pump and gearbox as well.
It’s never let me down in 20 years v
