I vaguely remember 405 lines changing to 625, it was like getting hi-def (at a stretch of the imagination).

I remember there only being 2 channels, you also had to have 2 aerials, an H one and an X one.

The change from 405 to 625 (VHF to UHF) did indeed make a huge improvement in picture quality.
