HD : Interesting that most people record live sporting events.

I record pretty much all live sport I watch so I can (a) avoid punditry (b) avoid adverts (c) stack up football matches one after the other (6 hr marathons are a regular occurrence on Sundays) (d) enjoy Test match cricket (an oxymoron to some, I admit) in full, particularly as most matches are through the night at present.

The biggest risk factor is, as others have mentioned, finding out the score, although it's surprising how little this occurs.

It's all about convenience at the end of the day - I rarely, if ever, watch live TV these days

Funny how we all differ, i never record live sports, and tbh, apart from on here, i don't know anyone who does!

Sometimes you want to record a program later in the evening that is delayed due an earlier program being extended. You cannot extend everything. That's why you have three tuners. Get a V6 and you'll have 6, and if you opt for another in a different room, it'll be 12!

No idea how that is relevant but never mind. Can't imagine why I would ever want 12 tuners! What a nightmare that would be with endless duplicates recording over and over in multiple rooms filling hard drives on a device I would very rarely want to use.

Its "Interesting" ? Someone must be very bored.

I find it interesting as I didn't think that people would generally record live sport, I thought they'd want to watch it live.

There's been some interesting reasons thrown up as to why people do it.

It is relavant because it is a positive comment about the V6, but of course positive comments are of no interest to you, it seems.

You may not have noticed, but there is a way of ensuring that you don't get lots of duplicates recorded. Incidentally, one helpful word of advice if you never use that facility - don't try recording Peppa Pig!

As much as we would all like to be able to watch all sport live sometime work or family gets in the way so recording needs to be done.

Do you mean manual recordings?

I've had to do this for two programmes because only a generic description is given by the broadcaster.

I found that selecting 'New Only' also picked up duplicates.

That happens when the program data isn't sufficient to tell if it's new or not so TiVo records it anyway, presumably as a duplicate recording is better than not recording a genuinely new recording.

This happens a lot on kids channels where the programme data seems to be sparse at best. This lack of data can also cause the same episode to recording in the morning and and night as there's not enough data to tell whether a recording of a broadcast has happened in the last 30 days.

FX quite often put what I assume are placeholders in the shedule for 2 weeks in advance and then populate the programme data nearer the broadcase (you'll see lots of entries for the same programme on FX if you look 2 weeks in advance in planned recordings).

I've also found this to be the case with Comedy Central (and some others).

They tend to fill up the schedule with Impractical Jokers.

This practice by the broadcasters/Tribune, along with generic descriptions and no episode labelling make a mockery of the TiVo system.
