I am an ex employee of virgin.
I worked on the telco and ethernet networks carrying out maintenance.
Yesterday I received the new hub2ac and I am not at all surprised about its poor performance.
As a connection for 50mbps it would be fine, However this being said it performs well on 50mbps on a wireless connection at 2.4ghz.
The 5.0ghz cannot go above 50, My bandwidth is set to 100mbps DL.
On an ethernet connection it can only handle between 20 and 40mbps, which is pretty poor considering its hard-wired, as is most of the equipment in my workroom.
<SNIP>
Will keep you updated but i have as always, my utter doubts

Your description of the SH2ac doesn't accord with my experience. I has behaved perfectly for me in both router and modem mode and continues to do so on the v1.01.09 trial firmware.
The 5GHz WiFi light being on in modem mode might suggest a dud device. Is that still the case?

The 'phenomenon' he's moaning about is that he has an area utilization problem and is blaming it on the modem.
In related news, I bought a new car but the petrol is costing more than it did ten years ago! I only paid 60p a litre back then now it's £1.60! It's obviously my car's fault. This car is crap.

Re: The All New Super Hub 2AC from virgin media, Did we mention its as bad as the 1st
I have the Superhub 2ac on 152mbps fibre.
I struggle to get over 25mbps wired reliably on known good equipment.
I have a Realtek RTL8168B/8111B PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Adapter on a Gigabyte EP35C-DS3R (Socket 775) mobo
I have tried all the driver settings I can think of but Windows 7 x64 still reckons my link speed is 100mbps
My Realtek driver version is 7.88.617.2014 dated 17/06/2014 and it is a Realtek Signed Driver
On the Router I have a flashing orange LED and on a the PC end it's a solid green and flashing orange LED.
My wireless is 160mbps d/l
This is dodgy Router firmware.
To humour Virgin I have ordered a CAT6 cable and a PCI-e x1 Gigabit NIC but I am convinced it will make no difference.
Seems to me that there is an issue with certain NIC chipsets and some / all of these Router's firmware.

Re: The All New Super Hub 2AC from virgin media, Did we mention its as bad as the 1st
what cable are you using atm? Cat5e can handle 1gbit no problem. VM talk out of their arse when it comes to this kind of thing. When they forced a shub1 on me a few years ago my speed tests went from a rock solid 49.xxmbits on my vmng300 (50mbit tier) to 35mbits on the shub (100mbit tier) and all tech support (UK) had to say was that although my pc was showing as being connected at 1gbit to the shub, it might not actually be connected at 1gbit and Windows ins reporting it incorrectly.
As much as I would love to blame this on the shub, I think the issue is with the realtek drivers. I have seen this problem mentioned at least twice before last year and it took a bit of trial ad error to get it fixed. I am pretty sure the peeps ended up having to use slightly older unsigned drivers in order to fix the problem which isn't really the way you want to go.

Re: The All New Super Hub 2AC from virgin media, Did we mention its as bad as the 1st
There is a firmware update being trialled at the moment v1.01.09 that is supposed to cure the 100 meg phenomenon. I could reproduce the phenomenon on my Realtek GBE Family PCI-E controller if I set the controller speed to 100 meg. There was no issue in my case of the SH2ac detecting the wrong settin when it was set to 1 Gig.
On balance I'd guess that this particular reported phenomenon has been cured in v1.01.09 which now correctly punts 100 meg when the NIC is set to 100 meg.

Some readers have been seeking the same answer from similar asinine postings on other forum websites?
The only conclusion so far, is it's a feeble attempt to go viral....... :roll eyes:

Re: The All New Super Hub 2AC from virgin media, Did we mention its as bad as the 1st
I don't think the SH2AC is as bad as the 1st SH. Yes I have had issues with it and now on my 4th 2AC but being in the trail I expect it to have issues. My current 4th one seems to be fine and wifi is great on it as long as it keeps working.

Re: The All New Super Hub 2AC from virgin media, Did we mention its as bad as the 1st
An interesting report from Smittie. The SH2ac seems to be split (not evenly though) between those like me whose device has been totally trouble free and those like Smittie whose SH2ac has died. I sense in the VM Forums a higher proportion than the SH2.

Is there a correlation between SH2ac's that are dying and those running in router mode?
