I've been offered a V+ box as a perk for being an existing Virgin Mobile customer.

+1 recommending Quidco, I think I got £150 from them earlier this year and 6 months half price through VM website.
I'd snap that up if you also get £100 off your bill, absolutely stonking deal there

So If you definitely want to cancel you can give your notice any time. They will try to tell you it's a 31 day notice period but if you state that you know about the new rules they should apply your notice anyway.
Any ETC applicable is only the amount of time you have left in the minimum package you could subscribe to for that period, so £21.50 per month or £32 per month if you are in a HD contract. For tel and broadband contracts it is much less than your normal monthly subscription as it's only allowed to be the cost they would incur minus any savings they would make by not having to provide that service anymore.
So it's very unlikely to cost anything near £100 with only 7 weeks left. £50 at most I'd bet.

Cheers for the info. I've found a list of SKY's early termination charges:
Whilst the info seems straight forward, I'm not sure how the charges are relevant to me. I'm on a 50% off deal. Some of those charges are actually higher than what I pay for month. For example I only pay £3.75 per month for broadband but it looks like I'll be charged £8.75 for each remaining month. It's the same for HD. I pay £5.12 per month but will be charged £7.44 for each remaning month.
I think I'll need to give them a call as this could get expensive.

Just explain that you are trying to help VM standerdise their equipment base and it'll cost them less in the long run.
I'm pretty sure the 500MB Tivo doesn't have an activation fee and you'll already be paying an install fee so you just need to try and get the extra £11.50 reduced (although even then I think the multi box charge is already included in the bundle so it may only be an extra £5).
Good Luck.
Have to say with the offers going around for new customers at the moment make my offer many, many years ago of a free box (I still payed for the install) when I joined seem pretty rubbish in comparison and makes my previous view that "we all got a deal when we joined so shouldn't feel hard done by that new customers get deals now" seem, at best, a little out of date.

I guess if VM have no plans to port the Tivo interface onto non Tivo boxes, which I'd be surprised if they did, then I guess they may as well have a V+ box as have a VHD box. Providing it is a Samsung V+, it will do mpeg4 if VM eventually go that way.

Yes the area manager said its a way of getting one over on Sky by offering it to people who have sky and are changing over or who can't decide between the two

I believe swapping between "all" the other providers is the only way to go these days. Preferences in equpment like Tivo are just losing there appeal as prices increase at a greater rate than income. I use the same philosophy for TV phone and BB as I use for gas or electricity supplies.
Hence now swappped VIP 50 for "equivalent" Sky package, kept 120BB and saving £11/month. In 12 months time the circle of life will start again.
