That's good news but I don't think it is possible to have a truly dynamic EPG on TiVo because of the function it has.
TiVo has to reschedule all series links when an EPG change occurs. This can potentially lead to a programme not being scheduled because there is no suitable repeat if, for example, a program over-runs by even a few minutes.

Any PVR that can reschedule recordings can suddenly find it hasn't got enough tuners to record everything. That can happen on TiVo now. Having real-time updates wouldn't really make the problem any worse.

Not really true.
Say I have a single program scheduled for 8pm and three scheduled for 9pm.
Suddenly the 8pm program is going to overrun and the dynamic EPG kicks in. Which of the three 9pm programmes gets dumped? The lowest priority one, which may or may not have a repeat.
If the lowest priority programme doesn't have a repeat, having a dynamic EPG directly results in a programme never recording.
I'd rather have the current situation where my 8pm program is truncated but at least I get my three programmes at 9pm.

If we get a Dynamic EPG, we need the option to turn it off... which I will do... exactly for the potential problems outlined above. Sky have the option to turn off the Dynamic EPG.
I find the current EPG works fine for me. I know the odd show that may over run so just add a bit of end padding to those shows.
My worry is that VM will force a dynamic EPG on to us without the option to turn it off. I suspect that most people are happy with the current EPG. A DEPG sounds good and it has it's advantages, but maybe people haven't considered the negative aspects that could lead to missed recordings? But if we have the option to turn it off, then everyone can be happy.

I completely agree. A dynamic EPG, for me, would cause more problems than it solves.
Of course, if we had 6 tuners and TiVo had the ability to re-schedule over multiple channels, including +1 channels, ........
Personally, I'd be happy to get the extra core function of TiVo, currently only available to those on the NetFlix trial.

I agree completely, passingbat. I would also turn it off if I had that option, although as Robbo says, if we had 6 tuners, I might have to re-think that!
